About
Us
Venice Elementary School first opened its doors
in October of 1953. Since that time, VES has a proud history of service
to the community of Venice.
Located on the Island of Venice next to Venice High School, VES serves
more than 640 students
in grades K through 5. VES is also a student center for south county students
identified as mentally handicapped, or language impaired. Venice Elementary
is a magnet school for students identified as gifted, offering full-time
placement in gifted education with certified teachers.
In addition to instruction through the use of the Sarasota County Curriculum,
VES students attend weekly classes in a state of the art Science Lab.
Foreign language is also offered for all students. Our specials classes
include art, music, PE, and technology for all students in grades K through
5.
Venice Elementary has a mandatory uniform policy on Monday through Thursday.
Friday will be a free choice day. For further information go to the Uniform
Policy/Dress Code link on this web site.
The students at VES routinely score among the top schools in the county
on FCAT and Stanford 9 Exams. During the past two school years, the Myakka
Chapter DAR essay winner has been a Venice Elementary fifth grader.
In a unique partnership, Venice Elementary and Venice High School work
together to provide volunteer opportunities for high school students in
elementary classrooms. On a daily basis, many high school students work
in a variety of classrooms as tutors, mentors, and teacher helpers. VES
is very fortunate to be a sister school to Venice High School.
Venice Elementary School is perceived by parents, students, and staff
as a school with high expectations and clear-cut goals. Climate surveys
also indicate the school is perceived by all as both safe and orderly.
Vision:
Venice Elementary desires to be a caring
and compassionate school in which all staff are given professional respect,
participatory management and a wealth of teaching resources. In such an
environment, Venice Elementary will produce students who possess knowledge
and can utilize that knowledge when interacting with others. We believe
in the ability of all students, and envision no achievement gap between
any disaggregated segments of our population. We desire to provide an
environment for our students in which they may effectively communicate
their thoughts and ideas to others and learn from one another. Venice
Elementary desires to prepare our students to be healthy individuals academically,
artistically, physically and emotionally so that they may be successful
participants in our society.
Mission:
While performing individually and in cooperative groups,
students will develop and refine life-long learning skills utilizing a
variety of instructional and technological systems. This will be accomplished
by an exceptionally well-qualified staff, actively collaborating with
motivated students, involved families, and the community in a safe, support
environment.
Every child, every day ...... whatever
it takes.
