PHILOSOPHY
Research has shown that when families of all backgrounds are engaged in their children’s learning, their children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and pursue higher education. Our goal for Suncoast Academy is for the school, the family and the community to partner together for a better environment for education. This supportive partnership provides an educational benefit to the students of
Suncoast Academy.

Suncoast Academy will provide training for teachers and administration in Responsive Education. This method has been proved to increase success in the classroom. Responsive Classroom is not a Social Skills or Character Education program that is an add-on nor is it just another curriculum. Responsive Education is an approach to teaching and learning that integrates academic and social learning throughout the entire curriculum. Through a contractual arrangement with The Northeast Foundation for Children, our staff receives specialized training in the Responsive Educational approach to teaching.

DEMOGRAPHICS
Suncoast Academy is open to any student who resides in the School District of Sarasota & Manatee Counties.  The goal is to target those     students who reside geographically close to the school. Students will be considered for admission without regard to race, religion, gender, or national or ethnic origin.

The school will actively seek to achieve a racial and ethnic balance that approximates the demographic profile of Sarasota County. The school will mount an extensive public information campaign that will provide widespread notification of the opening of our school throughout all segments of the community. The school expects that a reasonable balance should be achieved through these efforts.

Academic Focus: The school’s academic focus will be on reading and its integration into the core subjects of science, mathematics, and social studies and their real-world applications. Traditional academics will be enhanced through technological explorations and concrete experiences implemented through the Responsive Classroom environment.
