Anchor AcadmenyPerformance Based Diploma ProgramMission The Anchor Academy provides an on-site alternative education program for students who have not reached their potential in a more traditional setting, and as a result are at risk of dropping out of high school. The Academy also serves a growing number of students who are bound for post-secondary education, but due to a wide variety of personal and/or familial circumstances are unexpectedly deficient in credits. These students have the opportunity to retrieve credits in the Academy setting while taking elective credits on campus, and then return to "regular" education classes at the end of the year with advancement to the next grade level. Application Criteria: Students must be districted for Sarasota High School and enrolled; age 16 and older; Level 2 or above on FCAT reading; deficient in credits or previously retained; exited from ESOL and ESE programs. Stanford Achievement of 50% or more and Guidence Counselor recommendation required. Format: Five teachers and the Program Coordinator facilitate self-paced learning, guided instruction, and computer-assisted instruction to enable students to achieve and retrieve credits. Career Technical Education (CTE) Students are encouraged to enroll in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. CTE programs provide skills as well as on the job training (OJT) Class Size: Approximately 20 students in each of the core classes. Teachers
