Old Business:

There was a question asked previously if SAC could use money from their funds to pay for substitutes.  MaryBeth has confirmed that we can use SAC funds to pay for subs as long as we have consensus.

Please be advised that all persons requesting funds for various projects must attend the meeting in order to answer and clarify any questions.  If you are not in attendance and the committee has questions, your proposal will be tabled until more information can be gathered.

Money has been awarded to each grade level team to assist with field trips.  Each team received $5 per student on the team as of the November meeting. Please contact Beth Turgeon for more information on the exact amount given to each team.

Treasury Update:

The SAC budget currently stands at $5, 367.21 out of the consumable budget. This amount reflects the recent expenditures to assist grade levels with field trips.

New Business:

Estelle Currielle shared with the SAC committee the progress of the Adults English classes.  She reported that they have been a success.  Ten parents attended the first session.  There is a plan to start the next session after the New Year.

Ms. Currielle questioned what was going to be done to assist parents in inding after school care with the closing of the YMCA on our campues..  Mrs. Kahler shared there are six options for parents to choose as alternatives.  This information was shared with parents in English and Spanish.

Estella Currielle questioned how information on SAC was passed on to the parents.  It was shared that a recruitment letter was sent home in both English and Spanish encouraging parents to join and attend the PTO and SAC meetings.  A translator was hired to assist with the Spanish speakers at SAC meetings and translators participate in every event at Tuttle to encourage parent participation.

Mrs. Welsh shared an update on the Casa del Sol Music Event.  It was a huge success. The students did a great job and were treated to food, refreshments and special thanks from the community members.

Student Council will be participating in a Holiday Gift Wrapping event at Books A Million on Saturday. The chorus will also be performing.

Principal’s Update

Jennifer Kahler shared that the Holiday Dance is scheduled for Friday December 15, 2007.

January’s schedule is full of testing.  It is important that student be on time and ready to learn.

In order to respond to the growing number of suspensions, Saturday school has been implemented.  The hours for Saturday school are 7-10 am.  There has been a positive response from parents because it means they do not have to miss a day of work.

Tune into Reading is a new program implemented by Tuttle to improve ESE and ESOL students’ fluency.  Students are provided time to sing new and old favorites.  Research has shown that through singing students can improve fluency, which leads to improved test scores.

The motion was made by Mary Beth to end the meeting.  Jennifer Kahler seconded it and the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is scheduled for January 9, 2008.
