Opening and welcome
by Amy Baker.
Election of President and Secretary: After some
discussion, it was moved by Kathy Dean and seconded by Bev Berstling that Amy
Baker be President and Debi Hammett be Secretary with Kathy Dean as backup,
motion passed.
New SAC Guidelines were passed out and changes were discussed. SAC terms of service and requirements were
discussed. Every member serves a
two-year term. Attendance is a major
part of achieving Five Star status for the school so all members were
encouraged to attend every meeting. The
two major changes were the requirement for a 72-hour notice of meetings and
that each meeting requires the presence of a quorum.
Introduction of new
members and the areas they
represent: Jeff Callan, teacher; Linda Daniels, interim Principal; Kristen
Dougherty, Business Partner; Angela Holleran, parent; Jan Molin, parent;
Colleen Pazderski, teacher; Jill Woodward, parent; and Heather Williams,
student. Kathy Dean moved and it was
seconded by Bev Berstling to accept new members, motion passed.
Meetings are
scheduled for the second Thursday of every month at 8 a.m. in Media Center. The one exception
is September 26th, we will hold a special meeting to discuss the School
Improvement Plan which is due October 4th. SAC may have to consider having a meeting in early August to get
the SIP done in time for the early due date.
Schedule of meetings
is as follows:
September 26th
- special meeting for School Improvement Plan
October 10th;
November 14th; December 12th; January 9th;
February 13th; March 13; April 10th; and May 8th.
Ms. Daniels
presented the School Accountability Report. There will be more discussion at our October meeting. Topics could be: How do we get the grade?
How are students tested (Stanford vs. NRT vs. FCAT)? Meeting Level 3 or above is what the report reflects. ESOL and ESE (except Gifted) are pulled out
for reporting purposes. A new category
this year is "Learning Gains".
In this category, schools must show growth within the subject-they
cannot stay the same or drop. This is a
way to help schools identify areas of concern.
NEW BUSINESS
Class reassignments
were necessary as the Kindergarten 10-day count was thirty below what was
expected. There was an increase in
First Grade. Mrs. Steinwachs was
reassigned to First Grade bringing the Kindergarten levels to 18-22 and the
First Grade levels to 20-21.
Amy Baker gave a
report on the 9/11 assembly.
"Take Dads to
Work Week" is September 23-27th. Venice Elementary will have
"Donuts for Dads" on Wednesday, September 25th from
8:00-8:45 a.m. Refreshments have been
arranged and Kathy Dean will coordinate volunteers to help set up, serve and
clean up in the cafeteria.
The Site Analysis is
done. To Ms. Daniels knowledge, no
Principals have applied for a lateral move to VES. Mr. Zordich will be coming to the Faculty meeting on September 18th
to help determine the teacher representatives on the selection panel. After the period for Principals expires, the
position will be open for Vice-Principals and a nationwide search will
begin. Ms. Daniels will remain until a
new Principal has been selected.
PALS meeting is
Thursday, September 19th at Brookside Middle School. The following people will be representing
VES in various capacities: Robin Labolt, Amy Baker, Colleen Pazderski, Linda
