New Business:
1. Parent Compact –The Parent Compact from the 2006-2007 school year was reviewed. SAC members will review and share their feedback at the May 15th meeting in planning for next year.
2. PTO Events – The Sock Hop was held on Friday, April 13. The turn-out was not as big as anticipated. A concern was also expressed regarding the music the DJ was playing. This has been addressed. The school carnival is scheduled for May 11th. PTO will meet tonight to finalize details and provide more information to the staff.
3. Multicultural Fair – Kindergarten and second grade will participate in this event on May 11th. First and third grade will participate on May 18th. Second grade will be displaying their items on the stage in the cafeteria.
4. Publix - The Mother’s Day cakes have been a huge as more than 300 cakes have been ordered. Students will be decorating their cakes in the cafeteria from 12-3 on Friday, May 11.
5. Parent Communication - A concern was expressed that Tuttle Talk needs to be sent home more frequently.
6. Translations – Teachers expressed a concern regarding parent communication and translation. Teachers are not able to send home weekly newsletters, etc because they are not able to get information translated quickly. Mrs. Martinez shared that the translation schedule would need to be discussed with the administration.
Old Business:
1. Parent Conferences – At our last meeting, we discussed a concern over parents requesting last minute conferences before and after school. It was suggested that the parents needed to give teachers 48 hours notice. Mrs. Martin has conference slips available at the front desk for parents to complete. Emergency situations will be handled on a case by case basis. It was suggested that emergencies be directed to the principal’s secretary for administrative attention. When the minutes reviewed by Dr. Buchanan, he indicated we may still have a problem being inconsistent with the parent handbook. This issue was discussed at TMT. The parent handbook addresses this-24 hour notice. The front desk has already been reminded to enforce this policy.
2. Homework Policy - There has been inconsistency in the grading and assigning of homework. TMT decided that homework in grades K-3 would be graded for effort. Grades 4-5 will assign both an effort and academic grade.
3. Parent Information – We previously discussed the need to have a parent information table in the front office. Mary Beth Slane will work with Dr. Buchanan and Dr. LeMaster to finalize the plan.
Principal’s Update
1. Budget Meeting - Next year a unit allocation method will be put in place for the staff, which will effect staff positions in the school. The budget will need to be reviewed by both SAC and TMT prior to the deadline. In order to address the budget issues with SAC, it was suggested by Dr. Buchanan that a SAC meeting be held before April 30th to approve the recommendation. The next SAC meeting will be held Thursday April 26th, 2007 at 7:45 in Room 201.
Mary Beth Slane adjourned the meeting at 8:20 a.m.
