Tuttle Elementary School
SAC Minutes
November 21, 2002
The November SAC meeting was held on November 21, 2002 in the administrative conference room at 4:00 p.m. Attendance was checked and attached.
Mrs. Zieminski presented drawings submitted by the Beautification Committee regarding landscaping of the front entrance. Several suggestions were made regarding ground coverings and types of plantings to be used. Mrs. Dubin will ask the committee to obtain estimates of cost to landscape the front. SAC felt the benches would be a safety issue and would not recommend the benches. SAC will vote on the landscaping issue once estimates are given.
Safety issues were discussed concerning the lack of school signage on 8th Street. SAC would like to see a flashing light and school signage painted on the street at 8th and Tuttle. Speed bumps could also be considered. Petitions will be available for parent signatures at the Tuttle Holiday Dance. After signatures are received, a letter will be drafted by the SAC to send to the City Commission as well as the office responsible for road signage.
A request was made by Ms. Nugent to fund the Artists in Schools project with the Sarasota County Arts Council for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders for digital art in the amount of $600. A motion was made by Mrs. Murphey and seconded by Mr. Osborne. The motion passed unanimously.
A request was made to approve the expenditure of $500 to contract with Bill Farnsworth, the illustrator of the Kaya books to meet with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in February, 2003. Mr. Farnsworth will be speaking to the students regarding the tribe associated with the books as well as all matters pertaining to the writing, researching and illustrating of the books. Motion was made by Mrs. Kleer and seconded by Mrs. Kennelly. The motion passed unanimously.
Mrs. Kleer suggested that Tuttle again become involved with the second grade swimming lessons taught at Arlington Park. The lessons would be for three weeks 9:00 – 11:00 for all second graders with parent permission. Mrs. Kleer will be the liaison with the organization and Tuttle to set up the lessons in August, 2003, with second grade team approval. SAC will fund the bus fees.
Mrs. Dubin presented a situation where two people were inadvertently not included in the A+ bonus monies calculations. With TMT approval and SAC approval, Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Simon will be allocated the same monies paid by SIP funds. A motion was made by Mrs. Kennelly and seconded by Mrs. Zieminski. The motion passed unanimously.
The next meeting will be held on December 19, 2002 at 4:00. The meeting was adjourned at 4:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Michele Ralich
