S.A.C./SDMT Meeting Minutes

January 17, 2008

 

                                                                   Called to Order 3:50pm: Jaime Kisner

                                                          Ms Smagghe motioned to approve minutes

SIP Committee Reports

        SOS - currently focusing on:

o   bullying help students & teachers BFF@TBES

o   dismissal procedures

o   parent pickup design for 08-09

 

        Renaissance - Goals:

o   To increase student participation

o   Increase consistency participation guidelines

o   Make renaissance 24/7 atmosphere on campus

o   Upcoming:

o   2nd Qtr Celebration (CLUE)

o   Walk-a-thon

o   3rd Quarter Renaissance theme “Spring Training”

 

          Literacy

o   County getting new reading series approval

o   Every 6 yrs a new reading series is adopted

o   This year it is District-wide!

o   All children will have same reading series from advanced to remedial

o   Surplus going  reading series back

o   Sarasota reading council

o   Assessments K & 1st , requirements for DOE and help monitor it

o   Reading Counts incentives-

                        T-Shirts, Dog tags, Water Bottles, Wall of fame

o   High Schoool Musical Sock hop

o   Great success!!   71 students invited!

o   Spirit Night - Books-a-million

o   1st & 3rd targeted

o   Volunteers being contacted

o   Library Club-lots of involvement-TBA

o   Adopt a shelf Program-skills, alpha, care for the library

o   Sunshine Great Readers Program

o   Grant from Sarasota County gave Reading Program 17-18K

o   Classroom Crates w/45 books each for each classroom

o   Curriculum Room-Organization of materials on-going process

o   Grant workshops for Teachers

 

        TECH Committee

o   3 labs on campus; awaiting 2 more labs(District Approval Required)

o   2 Successmaker & 1 FCAT Explorer

o   180 new computers received

o   SM program to be available in each classroom 2-5

 

        SCIENCE

o   February planning

o   Science Fair

o   Over 500 attendees

o   21 Students moving on to Sarasota Cty Science Fair!!

o   Earth Day being planned for spring(?) ideas welcome

              Grade Level “Adopt – a - Campus cleaning, etc.

 

          STAFF DEVELOPMENT

o   Active Technology

o   5 - 6 Modules

o   ActivBoard, etc

o   KAGAN-Cooperative Learning Structures

o   Win-Win Discipline

o   Ongoing Writing training-on going K-4

 

          DRESS CODE

o   Guidelines 07-08 went very well

o   Meeting to review guidelines

o   Zoomerang survey to all staff regarding effects and suggestions re: uniforms

o   Considering uniform trade-in procedures

o   5th grade uniforms next year?

o   Fridays T-shirt & jeans…Difference in Behaviors???

 

        SCHOLARSHIP

o   5 years old started by Jim C.

o   2-$500 scholarships to NPHS student that attended Toledo Blade for 3+ years

o   Silent Auction in February, Donations will be accepted, re-gift, etc. held on

o   Professional Day

o   Quilt-Raffle

 

**Lots going on behind the scenes focusing on increasing learning and student achievement***

 

 

 

 

Boundary Advisory Committee Update

o   Committee involving parents & staff from impacted schools

o   Regarding:  new Elementary School I

o   Behind the scenes:

                   Mapping out new growth now & future

                             i.e. 2 new developments on Price to feed into Toledo Blade district

                   Neighborhood planning

                   Equitable enrollment

                   Economic Balance of students

                   New school-needs 750-800 to open

o   Road map boundaries

o   Price & Atwater location of future elementary school

o   Recommendation in February or March to SCSB

o   5th Elementary School in North Port

o   Projected to lower numbers to 600-700 at TB

o   All is forecasted based on economy

 

Protected Budget/Staffing Report

o   Budget to be received from County @ TB March 26 - if it is three week turn around, April meeting should be rescheduled so that we can review and present budget

o   SAC/SDMT Budget review meetings:

              Wednesday, APRIL 9 - 3:50 pm media center

o   2nd budget meeting

              Tuesday,April 15? @ 3:50 pm

 

Charter School and Woodland Middle

o   250 (?) 4th to 5th – slated to attend Woodland MS in fall of 2008-09

o   Imagine Charter school slated to open in August of 2008 located across from Lakeside Plantation. Planning on opening with 400 students K-6

o   Mr. Renouf has a meeting with district staff to continue discussions on above topics to determine potential impact on TBES

 

A+ School Project Money $10,000 

o   Recommendations will be researched and rank ordered by teams according to preference

o   Updated DVDs in media- Jennifer Runck

o   Activotes*-Vietta Smagghe

o   Math related projects, games, literature, software- Sandy Coward

o   Reading Counts Books - Lori Rodriguez

o   Tune Into Reading-Kathleen Rayson

*Activotes - are Interactive hand-held devices that work with Activ board.

          Kids love it, great pre-assessment tool. 1st thru 5th great benefit. ¾ of staff need them!

 

 

 

Next Meeting: FEB 21

o   Next meeting: Work Session, Interactive and fun, Dissect Parent Handbook of TB.

              Needs to be reviewed and revised if necessary every year!

                        Looking at Design, layout, format & content
