The Toledo Blade School
Advisory Council met on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at 4:00 in the Media Center.
Mrs. Dooley was introduced as the newest SAC member. Mrs. Dooley may be doing
Hispanic translations for the school.
FCAT Writing was held
today; March 1, 2, and 3 are remaining FCAT testing dates.
Mr. Coulson gave the
following information concerning projections for the coming years. Projected
enrollment is 1,200 students in 2004/05; 1,350 students in 2005/06; and 955
students in 2006/07. We currently have 1,097 students enrolled. Schools will
receive the 2004/05 budgets on March 19. We will be keeping the 28 original
portables that were on campus before Cranberry Elementary was set up.
Gulfstream Development
Group is building 300-400 homes per year on property on the east side of Price
Blvd. directly across from our school. There is a new elementary school
proposed to be built in 2005/06.
The Florida Inclusion
Network has been working with us to support student achievement. There were
grade level articulation meetings; e.g., K to 1; 1 to 2; etc. to discuss
strengths and weaknesses. D’Arcy Denis put together curriculum – scope &
sequence of what’s being taught and when – will show where there are gaps. Will
help us to also plan for future teacher development.
Technology class being
offered to parents at no charge. Being funded through the 21st
Century Grant.
Janice Serrapica (Aide in
Kindergarten) introduced the idea of having a literacy day (next year) and
bringing in local authors, having kids choose favorite book characters,
etc. Group will be formed to further
develop this idea.
Each grade level
representative discussed what has been going on – Writing, FCAT prep, Math,
Science Fair, Computer Cart, Reading support. The Special team is supporting and
supplementing grade levels with reading, math, and technology.
New Kindergarten and Pre-K
playground “grand opening” was today. Thank you to the PTO for their help with
this project.
At this time we are not
planning to have a March meeting.
