2007-2008

Meeting was called to order
by Gina Damaia
Minutes of the November,
2007, meeting were presented with motion of approval
(after correction of spelling for Ben Pinegar’s name)
by Marti Watson and Ben Pinegar providing a
second. Motion carried.
Karen Rose presented (via activ-board) the results of the winter SRI
& SCPT assessment.
Accelerated Pathways, a program of administrative mentoring, was
discussed. The program for 2007-2008 has
included individual mentoring/conferencing and attendance watches. The testing results have been used to help
guide conferencing.
“Students are risk” are students who are at risk of
failing one or more subjects due to: grades, attendance; discipline; testing
histories; retention; poor study habits. These students are targeted for the
Accelerated Pathways program as well as by teams and individual teachers to
receive directed attention.
Assessment results are also
use in PLC groups to guide instruction and to identify areas in need of
re-teaching.

New programs for SMS are National
Junior Honor Society and Builders Club (a middle school version of Key Club at
the high school.) SMS staff (Diane VanderLaun and Marti Watson) have been
identified as program supervisors. Both
programs are designed to help students learn how to provide service to their
communities. Currently the programs are
in the planning stage with full
implementation expected to be later this spring.
Student
Council is in the discussion stage for the 2008-2009 school year.
Charles
Brown guided the selection of officiers.
The following were presented for office:
Charles Brown & Gina Damia as co-chairs with Danyne Robins as
recording secretary. Motion was made to
accept nominations by Marti Watson and seconded by Karen Rose. Motion carried.
Dollars
(lottery dollars not to exceed $700) were approved for “Before School
Tutoring”.
SMS staff
has been busy designing activities and programs for SMS students. include on-going Activities included or planned for the 2007-2008
school year include FCAT Bootcamp, a school-wide drama presentation, musicals,
Edge of Excellance grant recipients, activ-board training and use, am math
tutoring two days weekly, Health & Wellness Fair, a bookstore in the School
Store, and probably others that did not come readily to mind.
