School Advisory Council

February 28, 2006

 

 

 Sarasota Middle School SAC meeting was called to order by chair, Charles Brown.

 

Minutes for January 17, 2006 were presented and approved with Linda Allen’s motion and Shelly Smith as second.

 

FCAT testing information was shared by teacher members and student members.  Students appeared to be taking the testing seriously and trying to do their very best.

 

SAC teachers and Dr. Dettmann were asked about staff morale in relationship to all the news about 48-hour work and 30-hour work.  Teacher SAC members   responded to this concern.

 

All were encouraged to vote on the upcoming referendum.  Dr. Dettmann shared the impact of referendum dollars at Sarasota Middle School.

 

Robin Faucy spoke about the efforts to recruit mentoring adults for Sarasota Middle School.  It was reported that there were about  20 students currently un-matched at this time

 

Our track teams were recognized for their outstanding season.

 

A seminar “Youth, The Media, & Violence” was announced and members were encouraged to attend.  The seminar is being held March 13, 2006, at the Sarasota High Auditorium.   2006 Girls’ Summit was also announced and pamphlets were distributed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

March 21 2006 was designated as the next SAC meeting.

 

Motion to adjourn was made by Gina DaMaia and seconded by Linda Allen.
