SAC Meeting
November 24, 2003
Meeting was called
to order by Mr. G. Leicht, Chairperson.
Minutes were
presented and approved with typographical corrections.
Lottery dollar
(flexible spending dollars) allocations were discussed. Professional development substitutes,
curriculum coordinators, tutoring before school, and
enrichment classes are on going or planned.
School climate
survey time is approaching. Discussion
centered on the use of a district provided survey or a survey constructed by
SMS. Designing our own survey vs. using
a commercial survey was also discussed.
The decision was made to use the district survey.
Dress code
implementation was discussed and presented by Dr. Dettman. The general guidelines were presented with
the endorsement of our PTSO and selected staff members. Details will be developed to provide for
consistent implementation. Lisa Rotolo
made the motion and Art Chido seconded, that the dress code be put into motion
even if the wording needs to be addressed and what the code enforcement will
be. Motion carried.
Panther Pride was
addressed, as there are some changes to the previous program such as no
referrals of any type allowed. A school
committee is addressing Renaissance Recognition beyond Grade Point Averages.
School spirit
shirts, presented by the PTSO, hope to raise the spirit of SMS. Shirts can be ordered through the PTSO for
about $7. There was some discussion of
promoting school spirit through the use of “Spirit Days”, etc. SAC offered its support to this activity.
SAC nominations
for 2004-2005 will be solicited through the school newsletter. Elections will be held Jan. 26 for SAC
officers.
Motion to close
the meeting was made by C. Brown and seconded by J. Bailey.
