Minutes of the November meeting were approved with a motion made by George, seconded by Javier.

II.         Director’s Report

·         The enrollment summary was reviewed.  Apprenticeship numbers are increasing. Adult High School numbers appear to be decreasing.  ESOL numbers are level.  There appears to be an error in the enrollment summary, perhaps due to the elimination of Fee Support.

.

IIl.        Technical High School

·         Mellissa made a presentation to the Board on November 21 regarding the new Technical High School and the process of opening.  North county location will open in 2008 with grade 9 and increase by one grade per year. The beginning CTE level will be general interest, and then the studies will become more specialized.  There will not be sports, but there will be extracurricular activities.  A second school will open in 2009 in South County, near the MCC campus.  The technical component will be the same focus as the MCC programs, with articulated credit or certified licensure.  Dual credits will be available. Construction will include a technical wing at SCTI, not a whole campus. It is still in the planning stages, but construction will have to start in the near future.

·         The following issues were discussed at length:

1.       George will continue to attend Capital Advisory Group meetings and will continue to present SCTI needs.

2.       Mellissa discussed SCTI’s image.  She also discussed the role the technical high school will play as one of the district sites providing CTE instruction.

3.       As the new technical high school appears to have a different target audience, it is important to meet the needs of the current population.

4.       Visitors who traveled to McFatter and spoke to students there learned that job skills were not necessarily the students’ focus, but rather exposure to an area.

5.       The career cluster area of manufacturing currently is not being addressed in the district CTE programs.

6.       A DVD about clusters and small learning communities will be available to all eighth grade parents in January. The A++ plan requires every sixth grader to have a career planning course in middle school.

7.       SAC wants to be involved in planning and decision making as the new technical high school and technical center are planned.

8.       There was discussion about SAC’s mission statement.

9.   It was agreed that SCTI should be a learning center for everyone in the community to get what they need in terms of education.

IV.                Old Business

·         Peter, Louis, and George met with the CTE Director and discussed SAC involvement

in planning.

·         No specific time lines for program elimination have been established.

·         High School Open House was November 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm

V.                  New Business

·         Vincente Medina resigned due to other commitments.  Peter will ask a Bank of America representative to participate in meetings and will follow up with SunTrust regarding new members for SAC.

VI.                SDMT

·         SDMT met on Tuesday December 5.  The Holiday Barbecue will be held on December 14 at 2:30 p.m.

·         Enrollment summary was distributed and reviewed.

·         The School Related Employee of the Year will be selected by January 8.

·         Budget priorities were considered but not decided upon.  It was suggested that CTSOs be included since they are a priority of the CTE Director and a considerable expense to SCTI.

·         On January 2nd, there is a Professional Day which will include McREL training for faculty and Excel training for classified.

·         New members were elected and will attend in January and take over in February, at which time officers will be elected.

·         Next meeting is January 9th.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm by a motion by Ed, seconded by George.  It passed unanimously. The next meeting is January 8, 2007.
