I. Welcome
Peter Straw called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m. He welcomed the group.
Minutes of the June meeting were approved with a correction (to members who proposed approval of the minutes). Motion made by George, seconded by Roland.

II. Director’s Report
· Bruce reviewed the successful opening of school.
· Randy Thies made a presentation to the group regarding the Veterinary Assisting Program goals, job prospects, and enrollment. The program was approved with a motion by Jerry, seconded by Roland.

Bruce reported on the Automotive grant for
Succeed
· Channel 20 will be introducing a new segment in October called On Campus. It will highlight visits to area colleges. SCTI was the first one to be videotaped. The teachers taped were Karen Noble and Scott Kennedy. Students taped were from Accounting and EMT. Bruce will inform the group about the airing schedule.
· Bruce shared the print ads that are running currently and new brochures.
IIl. CTE
Director’s Report
· SCTI will open its doors to a freshmen class in August 2007.There will be a new exploratory programmatic focus for freshmen. McFatter has a two year exploratory focus.
· A new 8th grade video is in production, which will include the opportunities for students at SCTI.
· Programs will be realigned into the 16 national career clusters.
· Meaningful program reviews will determine that community needs are met.
· There will be a district advisory committee to guide Mellissa in staying focused and on track. The committee will meet monthly.
· There will be high school and middle school advisory committees as well.
· In the next two weeks, district-wide CTE program offerings will be finalized. Courses tied to the economic development commission report will be offered.
· As the program offerings change, some teachers may have to expand their certification and qualification.
· SCTI will become a magnet school.
IV. New Business
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30
pm by a motion by Jerry, seconded by Ed.
It passed unanimously.
The Sarasota County Technical Institute provides
quality technical education to meet workforce development and community
needs.
