I.          Welcome

Peter Straw called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. He welcomed the group.

The minutes were approved as written.

II.         Director’s Report

·         Focus on the Future: Roundtable Notes: provided good information and conversation.

·         Enrollment Summary:  Adult General numbers, in the Adult High School area, not as high as in the past and may continue to drop due to the competition of other providers on web or in person.  Bruce will re-check March high school numbers for next month and members will receive another copy.

·         Special Focus Programs:  Legal Administrative Assistant is running mornings and two evenings with increasing enrollment.  Networking has had some increase in adult and high school and some changes have been made to the program.  Instructor involvement and ads have brought enrollments.

III.        Old Business

·         Workforce Summit: Peter reported that the summit was originally scheduled for June 15, and will now be held in October when all workforce boards meet.

·         Wall of Fame: SCTI Education Foundation will sponsor the reception for the Wall of Fame in the cafeteria.  The recipients will be announced at the May 19 event and the wall will be in Building 1. There are 26 nominations in two categories, alumni and significant contributors.  The committee of 5 people from outside the school will complete the selection process by April 15.

IV.        New Business

·         Planning for the Technical High School: Mickey Anderson presented a proposal dated April 4 on the possible structure of career focused programs for the Technical High School and the integration with SCTI programs.

1.       George reviewed the normal construction process.

2.       The group discussed the definition of needs at length.  The typical student may have one of three goals: industry certification for work, dual enrollment credit up to 30 hours, or Florida state system college admission without remediation.

3.       Decisions should be made regarding programs to be offered. This will affect the design of the buildings for the new school.

4.       The needs of the community, businesses, staff, administration, and students must be considered in #3 above.

5.        The model at McFatter was discussed: high performing, exceptional organization.  A trip to McFatter is planned for early May.

·         Peter introduced Vincente Medina and the group extended an invitation to join the council.

·         Bruce will contact David Winterrowd regarding his continued membership.

·         Ken DeVeau explained the proposal for the SCTI Foundation Scholarship, which was included in the packet.  It is an annual $250 award for a student from each high school to continue his/her education.  It will be based on dedication to completion of a program, financial need, and enthusiasm.

·         The Next Generation Learning was presented by Dr. Norris today. It focuses on closing the achievement gap.

V.                  SDMT Report

·         Harriette reported on the special budget meeting.

·         A waiver is being sought for Adult General Programs to rearrange their calendar.

The next meeting will be May 9, 2005 at 5:30 pm.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm by a motion by Roland, seconded by George.  It passed unanimously.
