I.          Welcome

Peter Straw called the special budget meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. He welcomed the group.

He shared the letter written by Louis regarding the new technical high school with the group.

II.         Budget Overview

·         Bruce presented the 2005-2006 proposed budget to the members. He included the budget timeline and the process.

·         Considerations in the budget were the enrollment of high school students, Governor Bush’s projected budget increase, the OPPAGA recommendations for cost efficiency and programming needs, and the priorities set by the SDMT and SAC at a prior meeting.

·         We are no longer able to run the high school Fire Science program.  Fire Fighter II Program is on hold per Florida State Fire College interpretation of requirements.

·         Note that $105,000 has been allocated to part time pay increase.

·         The group discussed asking the district to fund the media specialist position that will provide transition into the opening of the technical high school.

·         SDMT passed the budget with one exception: In Instruction Support Service Department, the SDMT could not reach consensus on the elimination of one Classified Graphic Designer position (SSP-11).

·         The motion was made by Ed Carthew to accept the budget as outlined pending SDMT approval of the budget, including elimination of the SSP-11 graphic designer position; and request the district provide funds to pay for the cost incurred in assigning an existing SCTI teaching staff member the full time responsibility to assist in planning the operational and curricular delivery structure and identify staff development issues that must be addressed prior to opening the SCTI technical high school in 2007.  Roland seconded and the motion was carried unanimously.

·         The budget is due to the Landings by 4 p.m. on April 4, 2005.

·         Bruce will advise the group regarding the SDMT’s position on the graphic designer position at the next meeting.

The next meeting will be April 11, 2005 at 5:30 pm.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm by a motion by George, seconded by Harriette.  It passed unanimously.
