II.         Director’s Report

There are two “special focus” programs.  Bruce reported on them.

1.       Legal Administrative Assistant:  The ad for this program will be in the Sarasota Herald Tribune for eight days.  Information will be given to the high school counselors for the current quarter, January quarter, and the Wednesday evening program.  Numbers will be reviewed for continuation.  The advisory committee will meet October 12 and articulation agreement will be reviewed.  The program is seeking adult enrollment.

2.       Networking:  The instructor and Carol Darling meet often to discuss the curriculum, teaching strategies, and counselor information.  The teacher will promote the program after Thanksgiving to friends of students.

The SCTI Expo will be held on October 26 from 4-7 pm in Bldg 5. The goal is the enrollment of 25 adults.

Bruce presented information on the enrollment and the student distribution.  George suggested the use of ideal class enrollment numbers for each course.  He also suggested a discussion with the business community on their needs versus SCTI course offerings.

IIl.        Old Business

  • No SAC members attended the PALS orientation.
  • Technical High School: Peter suggested that a letter be sent to the School District regarding opening in 2007.  The goal is to take a public position that the process be started now.  The SAC is committed and the business community is dedicated.  The SCTI mission statement supports it.  Roland indicated that public support for the issue is needed.  Perhaps workshops in both the north and south county could reach the stakeholders in the community.  There are location issues that need attention; a project manager is needed.

·         The SAMA hurricane relief efforts generated $60,000 to date.  SAMA golf tournament is scheduled for October 23.  Peter, on behalf of SAMA, thanked SCTI for their support in hurricane relief and the golf tournament.

  • Bruce reviewed the marketing plan and its goals of increasing both adult enrollment and internal marketing. The advertising committee members are Andy Fox, Harriette Laronge, Cathy Corona, Carol Darling, and Bruce Andersen.  The committee seeks more consistency in ads and a consistent message.  They want to get feedback on the success of ads.  Data collection is important.

IV.        SDMT

Janice reported that SDMT met on September 7 and October 5.  She reported the minutes of both meetings.

V.      Other Business

Strategic Plan for Excellence

Bruce reported that all data elements are not complete.  Changes may be necessary to the SCTI mission statement due to the inclusion of Workforce ACEC with SCTI.  The plan is descriptive in format and has 9 goal areas.  Strategies and activities are included with each goal.  Reading and writing are part of the content of each curricular area.  SPDP (Professional Development Plan) will address the implementation.  The staff will receive a schedule of activities and the times that each one will be delivered.  Implementation plan must be approved by SDMT and the Landings.  George proposed that the SAC authorize the Chair to review the final draft of the plan, and if it’s consistent with the SAC discussion, approve the plan for submission. Jerry seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

         Superintendent Roundtable

There will be four roundtables for SACs to talk about common issues. The one for SCTI is on December 7 at Sarasota Middle School.  It will include Riverview HS, SCTI, and several elementary schools.

The next meeting will be November 8, 2004 at 5:30 pm.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm by a motion by George, seconded by Harriette.  It passed unanimously.
