Becky Moyer reviewed the SAC Operational Guidelines and highlighted the “changes”
The following changes were made:
Article VI, Item E – Attendance: A member may be removed from the School Advisory Council prior to the expiration of their term after two (previously three) consecutive unexcused absences.
Article VIII – Membership Voting: Membership Decisions (previously Membership Voting): Decisions shall be by the consensus method as defined under procedures adopted by the School Board. Decisions can only occur when a quorum is present (previously read as Voting and procedure shall be by the consensus method as defined under procedures adopted by the School Board. Votes may only be taken if a quorum is present. (A quorum is defined as a majority of the membership of the council.)
There was discussion regarding the definition of consensus. It was defined as “I may not support the issue, but will not actively work against it”.
Article IX, Item 3 – Meetings: Meeting notices, including agendas, when possible, will be posted 3 days prior to the scheduled meeting (previously read as “Meeting notices, including agendas, will be posted in the teacher lounges, mail room and parent newsletter 3 days prior to the scheduled meeting”).
Mrs. Piedra requested Mrs. Dawkins to provide the members with a list of everyone’s e-mail addresses and telephone numbers.
It was noted that the members needed to elect a vice-chairperson.
Mrs. Piedra and Mrs. Sue Hlohinec were nominated to serve as vice-chairperson. Mrs. Hlohinec declined the nomination and Mrs. Piedra accepted.
Adequate Progress Report for SIP (School Improvement Plan)
Mrs. Moyer discussed the Needs Assessment Summary which had been implemented for the 2001-2002 School Year.
After the discussion of the School Improvement Plan, it was decided that clarification was needed for Goal 1C “44% of IB students scored 5 or higher on their 2002 international exams as compared to 50% in 2001.” Mrs. Moyer would research the information and bring it back to the members.
Eight out of the eleven goals had been met in the School Improvement Plan, which is a positive for Riverview High School.
Mrs. Nook discussed the procedures for filing a complaint or harassment charges, and the rights of students and parents.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
*The next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 1, 2002
