MINUTES

Welcome
introduction and meeting called to order by Dr. George.
Agenda
Item/School Improvement Plan
Dr.
George discussed the following regarding the School Improvement Plan.
- Few
adjustments were made from last year.
- Reading
goals were met with 98% of students reading at level 3 or above.
- Year’s
2006/2007/2008 the Federal Government decreased the percentages that need
to be met across the disciplines.
- First
time we had enough African American population in grades 3-10 to have a
percentage, which was 96% of students scoring 3 or above.
- Hispanic
population continues to do well projected was 90% while actual was 96%.
- Low
income projected 92% actual was 98%; next year the projected amount is
99%.
- Reading
for grades 3-10 – there was a drop and we are looking into the reasons
why. There will be more assessment
testing with students scoring 3 or below.
- Math –
projected were 96% actual 100% meeting goals.
- Writing –
4th grade improvement.
- There
were enough Hispanic and Low Income students this year to be able to include
in our goals. Hispanic at 77% while
Low Income was 86%.
- Professional
Development Plan – Pine View chose three areas: Standards-Driven Lesson Design,
Curriculum Mapping and Moving to Excellence in Writing.
- The
Moving to Excellence in Writing goal will be achieved by having writing
workshops for teachers.
Agenda
Item/Principal’s Update
- Equity
Law booklets were discussed. This
booklet contains the county’s policy against discrimination for students,
zero tolerance and the appeals process.
This booklet will be distributed to all students.
- Detailed
Student Summary was reviewed.
Second year in row that we have as many high school students as
elementary. Middle school has the
largest population.
- Proud to
announce that we had 18% of our high school students as National Merit
Finalists. Pine View has the
highest percentage of population in the state.
- Long-range
planning – working with construction services to help develop a plan for
the campus to house 2,500 students.
This is a three to five year plan.
- Outreach
support – continue to work with Memorial Elementary as well as our new
adopted Bayou Buddies in Mississippi.
- Referendum
scheduled for next year – will be receiving directions to help to
galvanize the community in support of the referendum.
Agenda
Item/School Recognition Funds
- School
award money = $193,296.00.
- Seventh
year in a row that Pine View received funds.
- Funds may
be used for assigning bonuses, materials/supplies and/or temporary
personnel.
- Several
informational meetings were held to help with recommendations
- Six years
funds were given back to our school.
- Only
school, maybe in state, that returns money to the school.
- $930,000
has been returned to the school.
This speaks to the quality and commitment of our staff.
- Additional
items because of the additional monies, curriculum development, textbooks,
technology upgrades, and materials/supplies to name a few.
- Next SAC
meeting will have recommendations from SDMT.
Dorothy
Stuart mentioned how she as well as the other SAC members would like to thank
the teachers and to let them know how much they are appreciated.
The
next SAC meeting will be held on Monday, October 17, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. in room
#911.
