Playground Dedication – The playground dedication will be April 19, 2005 at 11:30 a.m.  There will be approximately 200-250 Rotary Members in attendance.  Those in attendance will be shuttled by bus from Sarasota Baptist Church to the playground.  The ceremony will be in the courtyard.  Rotary Members will have a lunch meeting with box lunches provided from Food Service.  The Rotary made one change to the playground; they are putting down foam not soft tile and they are going to reseal our other playground too.  There will be no CBIs this day, so that all students and staff can attend.

Budget – Preparation for next year’s budget 2005-06 – handouts given out of cost of current staff at 05-06 rates, student enrollment forecast through 2014-15, individual school executive budget summary, and a map of the school showing where new portables will go.  We had 47 teachers at the beginning of this school year with 8.2 students per class.  We now have 49 teachers with 8 students per class.  Projection for next school year is 425 students and class averages will continue at 8 students per class.  Don’t want to expand services and then have to cut them if the referendum isn’t passed.  Goal is to continue to keep class size down.  Oak Park currently has 164 employees and committee reviewed the salary rates and changes to the SSP salary rates.  Human Resources is now differentiating between ESE Aides and Autistic Aides with the incentive to stay at program/school you’re trained at instead of getting training at one school and then leaving to go to another school.

Oak Park’s greatest need on campus is another behavior teacher.  The students that are coming are more severe and additional support in the afternoon after high school leaves is needed.  Because of the increasing population and paperwork, more FBIs and other specific interventions are being required by District.  Strong recommendation to hire two teachers, two classroom aides and 1 behavioral teacher.  If the student count increases too much then the behavioral teacher could be moved into a classroom, as an ESE teacher is required for the position.   The new portables will probably be designated as one for Pro Team, two for Transition Team, one to reinstate as ISR.  The staff lounge may have to be reserved for classroom use and this may occur before end of year.   There has been a discussion with Michelle and we may use the Custodial Lounge for our  entire staff with new furniture donated through the memorial fund set up for Frank  All were in agreement.

Oak Park South has or is projected for 60 students which would be an additional 60 students for Oak Park without Oak Park South.  Population growth projection for Oak Park North by  2007-08 is 497 students.  (Jan, Susan L and Dave N will meet with Al Weidner about these projections and look at how we may deal with this.) Population growth is continuing throughout Sarasota county and Florida and many more students are being diagnosed with autism than they were 10 years ago.  Susan Lomas attended the capital budget meeting and they are just starting to plan for the growth in every school and the long term building needs.  Sarasota County is third in the state for portable usage.  25%  of our students are in portables.

We will all meet again on Tuesday, March 15th at 4:00 p.m. in the Media Center.  Jan will have figures for  approval by the SAC Committee.   Meeting Adjourned at 5:30.
