The SAC/Management Team met on Tuesday, September 22, 2004 at 4:00pm.
People in attendance
were:
Jan Komara, Phyllis Frederic, Susan Lomas, Terri Chivington, Kathleen Powers, Janice Summersgill,
Lea Kitchener, Colleen Byrne and Anna Mulligan.
Introductions were made for the members attending.
#1
School Improvement Plan draft given out to each person attending
this meeting. The Vision and Mission
Statement for Oak Park
School was reviewed. We are making great progress in terms of
expectations of students. We want our
kids to do the very best they can and we must develop our own plan for the
students involved in Alternate Assessment.
Jan Komara reviewed the statistics on the SIP and Oak Park did better than what was expected as
the FAAR helped our scores. She reviewed
the ethnicity and grades of our students.
Oak Park
has 5 LEP eligible students. She also
reviewed the graduation rate. Team
leaders are going to work with their teams on the reading, writing and math
strategies being used this year and present them at the next SAC/Management
Team Meeting. Science, Art and Technology were also reviewed. Career Preparation is an important issue with
dropout prevention and post graduate instruction with SCTI. Citizenship and Family and Community Involvement
were also reviewed. Susan Lomas wants
more parent involvement with SAC and questioned how we could generate more parent
support. The majority of parents of EH
students are not a responsive group, even with IEP attendance; parents of more
physically handicapped students are exhausted. The Professional Development Plan will have a
sub-committee of Team Leaders working on it.
There will be four more days of Professional Development for certified
staff only – not provided for classified staff.
We need a flexible, ongoing plan to do this. It’s an opportunity to improve what you know
to improve teacher knowledge and to improve student achievement. Can have plans that don’t have a product.
#2
Mrs. Komara advised the SAC/Management Team that we will
help PTSO with the Golf Tournament, their fundraiser again this year. Golf course ideas were the Meadows and
Sarasota Golf Course.
#3
The Open House/Literacy Night is November 30, 2004. Susan Lomas recommended parent involvement
for this event. Mrs. Komara stated that
we have great volunteers and that Oak
Park won three PALS awards.

every month. We rescheduled this
SAC/Management Team meeting to the third due to the Hurricanes and Oak Park being a
Hurricane shelter. All agreed on the
second Tuesday of every month at 4:00
pm.
