Minutes Review: April 24, 2007 minutes were approved.
September 25, 2007 minutes were amended under data evaluation
to read: “Don Burman wondered if it would be possible to retrieve
some data on our middle school students to see if progress
continued at the high school level.” (amendment in italics)
Barbara Needleman asked that she be replaced as recording secretary; Shari Dembinski volunteered.
School Recognition Program/SIP budget:
It was unanimously decided that money be distributed $5 per student for book fair.
Shari Dembinski suggested options be pursued so that students are not limited in purchases at the book fair.
Literacy Fair plans still up in air, but approximately $7,000 will be expended.
It was felt that opening of contest for a catchy logo for the school mission statement would be beneficial. Cash prizes were suggested to motivate students to participate.
Melodie Deeds reported that while the FCAT camp had good attendance, there was no way to track whether it really impacted the students’ success. Suggestions for holding a motivational rally were discussed and will be revisited.
LNS Update:
Nancy Dubin said that the Successmaker labs (CCC) will be open from 7:45-8:15 starting December 10. Staff to man the labs will be paid. This will replace the former after school tutoring program.
Middle Schools A++ Plan:
Melodie Deeds shared the Power Point presentation that was shown to parents at the September Open House. Students no longer receive employability grades because that 20% combined with the students work grades is not truly representative of the students’ mastery of concepts. Parents would question why a child got straight A’s, yet made Level 1, 2, or 3 on the FCAT.
Melodie also shared information about Middle School reform and that a student must pass all four academic classes with a 60% or better.
