Minutes from the January 10, 2008 SAC meeting were reviewed and approved.

New Business:

Paul Munnell, Coach of MathCounts:  HCMS MathCounts team took second place at the Myakka Competition and is now going on to state.  He requested funds in the amount of $834.00 for the team to attend State competition on March 27 and 28, 2008.  This was to pay for the parents’ (who are attending with their children) hotel and food costs.  After discussion, it was agreed that SAC would approve $200.00.  Dr. Desjardins will pay for shirts for the team and coach.  Mr. Munnell also discussed possibly doing a fundraiser on March 14, 2008 which was okayed by Dr. Desjardins.  This was passed and seconded by Ted Watson and Vince Dennen.

Catalina Balick presented the SAC members with pictures, thank you notes from students and a certificate for HCMS.  The kids loved the experience and expressed how they hoped it would be continued over the years.  She mentioned that photos can be viewed at RocketMan.com.

Beverly Horn requested approximately $1,490.00 for the USS Nimitz Team to go to Historic Spanish Point on May 16, 2008.  This would cover two buses and entrance for approximately 110 students.  Dr. Desjardins will pay to cover a substitute for Ms. Horn so that she may shadow Venice Middle School when they attend Historic Spanish Point on March 28, 2008 in order to prepare for her team’s trip.  This was passed and seconded by Lynsey Davis and Vince Dennen.

Dr. Desjardins presented the Principal’s Report.  Budget has been submitted and hopefully we will hear if approved the end of March.  There will be downsizing to HCMS but the plan is to hopefully work together with Woodland Middle School for job placement where possible.  Plan is to have 22 kids per classroom which would average about 88 students per team.

FCAT writes for 8th graders went tremendously well.  Out of 631 students, only six were left to be re-tested.  Jean Thompson did a phenomenal job coordinating and organizing as always!

The cafeteria has been running much more smoothly since alphabetical seating was set in place.  Ted Watson suggested that this continue indefinitely.  Dr. Desjardins will bring this subject up at the next Cabinet meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 am.

Next HCMS SAC meeting will be March 6th at 7:45 am.
