SAC Meeting 2/5/04

 

Attendance:  Ted Watson, Lois Mancuso, Eric Idoyaga, Sarah Terhune, Dena Henderson, Becky Sisson, Brenda Kelly, Fran Chippendale, Kristine Lawrence, Richelle Taylor-Harris, Josh Lozada

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

Minutes from last meeting were approved as well as the new “Request for Professional Development Funds” form ($10,000 remains in SAC fund currently)

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

Nancy Cope, Media Specialist at HCMS, requests $160 for early registration fee to attend National Convention in Orlando (A.L.A.) in June.  Motion approved.

 

Amy Menard, orchestra teacher at HCMS, requests funds in the amount of $630 for the purpose of 24 orchestra students to attend “Orchestra Festival” in Bradenton either April 30th or May 1st.  Motion approved.

 

Barbara Kipp, 6th grade Language Arts teacher, requested funds for a Van Wezel performance at North Port High School.  The question was raised concerning North Port students attending for free, and Mrs. Kipp will look into that.  Motion approved by SAC for $1,100 ($6.00 per student, 483 students) to be available in the event students will be charged.  Mrs. Kipp will updated SAC at a future meeting.

 

Dennis Silkebakken, band instructor at HCMS, requested funds for 130 students to attend the Jazz Orchestra and Solo Orchestra competition in April.  Motion approved for the amount of $511.20.

 

Dena Henderson, drama teacher at HCMS, requested permission for Thespian Theater Group to hold three fund-raisers to help fund a proposed, not yet approved, field trip.  The fund-raisers include:  scratch-off cards, selling of balloons and flowers, and “Laugh Out Loud” improv comedy event.  All three fund-raisers were approved by SAC.

 

Field trip to Co-existence Exhibit in Sarasota was approved for 8th graders (no funds required).

 

Ted Watson, 8th grade Social Studies teacher at HCMS, requested funds for 50 students from the Leadership Academy to attend aTallahassee field trip as reward for their accomplishments April 27-28th.  $2,000 was requested and approved by SAC.

 

Next SAC meeting is March 4, 2004 at 4:00 p.m.  Items to be discussed include: Principal’s Report and Florida School Recognition Program.
