*  Chairperson, Janet Pederson, called the meeting to order at 2:45 p.m.

            Introduction of new student members by Guidance Counselor, Mary Cantillo

            New Student Members – Eric Brown, 5th grade and Jade DeWitt, 4th grade with

 alternative reps, Rachael Zinn, 5th and Brooke Buzzell, 4th

            Introduction of new ESOL representative, Pedro Gonzalez, to replace Martha Baron

 

*  Outcome of A+ School Bonus funds discussed  -

            100% of funds to be distributed equally amongst staff

            Request made that further consideration be given to structure of ballots in future

 

*  Election Information discussed

Sample ballots, legislative amendment information, and report on House of Rep.

 vote record on education issues distributed

Concerns noted regarding ramifications of legislative amendments and vote

 records of  Legislators

            Encouragement expressed for promotion of education of voters and voter turnout

            Report on voting records to be placed in November Tiger Pause issue

 

*  Third Grade Retention Rule discussed –

            Grave concerns noted regarding wisdom of such law as regards the well being of students

 and lack of funding for such law.

            Letter to be sent home to all 2nd  & 3rd grade parents regarding legislation and its

 ramifications.

 

 

* School Board Meeting Summary given by Carl Olson

Concern expressed over Community Partner Education Program as regards funding of program and message it sends to Sarasota County community.

 

*  Response to May, 2002 Parent Survey discussed

            Concerns noted regarding cafeteria atmosphere

            Parents would like to see foreign language offered, more art and music programs

 

* Close of Meeting:  next meeting to be determined based upon need due to

 Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.  Notification will be sent if meeting required.
