Gocio Elementary School

Advisory Council (SAC)

October 11, 2007

The second meeting of the 2007/08 Gocio SAC was held at 3:30 with the following 15 members represented:

Sarah Booth, Barbara Cooke, Audrey Davis, Pamela Davis

Steve Dragon, Deborah Fipps, Julie Harrell, Kirsten Hazleton,

Rana Hodges, Angeles Radford, Ruth Rubenstein, Martha Samuelson,

Angela Smithson, Maureen Taliento, and Debra Voege.

The minutes of the September 18 meeting were read silently.  Deborah Fipps made a motion to accept them which was seconded by Rana Hodges.  SAC approved them.

SAC members had reviewed the SAC Operational Guidelines on their own.  Angela Smithson made a motion to accept them with no changes.  Martha Samuelson seconded the motion.  SAC approved the guidelines.

A discussion of the Florida State Recognition Program ensued.  Gocio Elementary was awarded $91,000.  The staff and SAC must jointly decide how to use the financial award.  It was decided that each team/department would be invited to bring and present a proposal to SAC on October 23, 2007.  Also, the SAC groups (parent, business partners, community) may each submit a proposal.  SAC agreed that the 2006-07 Staff List would be used to award bonuses.  All staff would receive a bonus who worked the 180 student days of the 2006-07 school year.  On October 23, SAC will vote on the proposals.  The three proposals receiving the most votes will be placed on a ballot.  All staff members will have the opportunity to vote for their choice on October 26 and 29, 2007.  The winning proposal will be announced via BBS immediately after being determined by a SAC Co-Chair and a SCTA Representative.

A motion for adjournment was made by Deborah Fipps and seconded by Julie Harrell.  The meeting adjourned at 4:55 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for 3:30 on Oct. 23, 2007.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Cooke
