School Advisory Council (SAC)
September 12, 2006
The
first meeting of the 2006/07 Gocio SAC was held at 3:30 p.m. with the following
23 members in attendance:
Brenda Aguayo, Tracey Bailey, Nickie
Brown, Antoinette Bush,
Barbara Cooke, Audrey Davis, Pam Davis,
Steve Dragon, Deborah Fipps,
Priscilla Fitzgerald, Millie Galan-Aguirre, Julie Harrell, Heather Hettinger, Rob Kanotz, Myndel Miller, Al Prieto, Maureen Prieto, Cheryl Rocco, Martha Samuelson,
Bill Sarazen, Diana Stoker, Maureen Taliento, and Ruben Vegas.
Members introduced themselves; then Mr. Dragon explained the Ground Rules for all meetings and introduced the SAC Operational Guidelines Draft, which members will read over and approve at a later meeting. Mr. Dragon addressed Article VII of the document (Officers) and the following volunteers were accepted by SAC: Myndel Miller and Nickie Brown as Co-Chairpersons, and Cheryl Rocco as Recording Secretary.
Most of the meeting was devoted to the Gocio School Improvement Plan (SIP), which is due September 30, 2006. An important piece of this plan is the School Professional Development Plan (SPDP), which must be reviewed by staff. Teachers may earn up to 30 hours of additional pay if they participate in these trainings. After explaining the district priority goal areas (reading, math, writing, and science), Mr. Dragon referenced Professional Development Courses offered by the district as well as approved Professional Development Topics which may count toward these 30 hours. (See 2 handouts.)
The Gocio SPDP Draft includes six of the fifteen approved Topic Areas and Teacher Competencies: these trainings will take place on campus. Teacher representatives on SAC are charged with sharing this information with their teams and finding out if any of the other approved topics need to be added to the Gocio list. These topics and participant names are to be turned into Janice McLeod by September 22, if there are additions. The final draft of the Gocio SPDP will be approved by SAC on September 27.
Future SAC meetings will be held September 27, October 17, November 14, January 16, February 20, March 13, April 17, and May 15.
Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl Rocco
Recording Secretary
