Gocio Elementary School
School Advisory Council (SAC)
January 17, 2006
The Gocio Elementary School Advisory Council (SAC) convened on January17, 2006, at 3:20 p.m. Debra Voege welcomed the members. Seventeen members were in attendance, including Judie Bouldry, Pam Davis, Steve Dragon, Tamara Ellis, Priscilla Fitzgerald, Millie Galan-Aguirre, Kirsten Hazelton, Rob Kanotz, Carol LaMontagne, Carolyn Spangler, Diana Stoker, Maureen Taliento, Rod Taliento, Debra Voege, Aaron Watkins, and Tymesha Williams. Fred Ribble replaced Duke Woolverton as a business partner representative. Mary Rozelle was also in attendance.
The first order of business was the reading of the minutes. Rob Kanotz moved that the minutes be approved. Rod Taliento seconded. Motion approved.
Kim Kirch, Media/Technology Specialist, presented an overview of a new computer learning system at Gocio called CompassLearning Odyssey. The Odyssey system encompasses both reading and math lessons aligned to the Florida state standards. SAC members were able to view sample activities included in the program and then were given an opportunity to discuss the program and to ask questions. Aaron Watkins expressed an interest in the district extending the capabilities of the program so that students would be able to log on at home.
Copies of the Flexible Supplement Allocation for 2005-2006 were given to members. All positions and supplemental allocations will be reviewed at a later meeting.
Debra Voege reported that Saturday School started on January 14 with 196 students on roll and 161 students in attendance.
Judie Bouldry moved that the meeting adjourn. Rob Kanotz seconded. Meeting adjourned at 4:20 p.m.
The next meeting is scheduled for February 14, 2006 at 3:15 p.m. Discussion will focus on how the outcome of the referendum likely will impact the staffing at our school.
