School Advisory Council (SAC) Minutes

September 25, 2002

1. Welcome and Introduction by Principal, Steve Dragon

Officers and their duties were discussed and the following persons

were selected by consensus to fill these positions.

Secretary - Brenda Bunker

Co. Chairman - Janet Noah (October)

Rachel Danforth (November)

(*These two will be sharing responsibilities every other month)

- Called to order, with 20 present and 4 absent.

- Selections - consensus - collective opinion:

All ideas are valued

Decision - making by consensus

Everyone participates, no one person dominates

- No December meeting

2. Five Star School Status-

- One of the criteria - School advisory council with 50% attendance at eight meetings

- Six years of receiving this honor

3. Review - SAC Operation Guidelines-

- Be on time - Strive for one hour

- Stay on agenda

Background:

- State of Florida implemented School Improvement Plan

- Five years ago - select goals and review opportunity for growth over a period of five years.

- 2002 - 2003 End of first five years goals.

reading - math - writing - science - parent involvement

(will be there as a constant)

- Goals - no minimum or maximum. It does need to be doable.

Six goal areas for Gocio School

- $10 per student - from lottery dollars - SPE Funds - Strategic Plans for Excellence

funded by lottery dollars and we are held accountable for their spending

4. Next Meeting to be held October 23, 2002 at 3:00 pm
