OLD BUSINESS:
Update on
School H
1. Ms. Baker informed the committee that School H is scheduled to open its
doors in August, 2006. Sally Mancheno, the former Assistant Principal from
Toledo Blade, will be the principal.
2. Glenallen will loose approximately 400 students, due to redistricting to
School H.
3.
Glenallen’s projection for the 2006-2007 school year
is 870 students.
4.
School H is also projected at 870 students.
5.
Current 4th grade students at Glenallen will be grandfathered
in, and will have the choice to stay at Glenallen for their final year of
elementary school, even if they are out of district. These students’ families
will receive a letter from the district.
6.
Glenallen will loose one assistant principal due to the decline in total
students because of redistricting.
SAC Project
Ms. Baker
informed the committee of the progress of the S.A.C. Reading Stars project.
Currently there are 7 classes, each with 12 students. The teacher student ratio
is 12:1. There has been good attendance and a demand for more tutoring spots.
One or two new third grade classes may be added to the Reading Stars program to
meet the demand.
On Thursday,
February 23, 2006 there will be a culminating celebration of the Reading Stars
program. Students will be matched with community members and middle and high
school students to read together. All S.A.C. members are invited to participate
in this celebration. Mary Pedro, Chris Cowan, Meredith Allport, and Michelle
Hanko all volunteered to help at the event.
The FCAT test
will take place on February 27, 2006.
Ms. Baker
requested funds to supply tee shirts and a pencil / goody bag for students who
attended regularly to motivate students to try their best on the upcoming FCAT
assessment. A motion was made by Michelle Hanko for the S.A.C. committee to
approve $500.00 to fund the incentives. Meredith Allport seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
NEW BUSINESS
The referendum
comes up for voting on March 14, 2006. County residents are encouraged to
register to vote. The school has voter registration forms. The referendum is
not an increase in taxes, but a vote to maintain the present 1% referendum
currently in place. If the referendum
does not pass again, it will affect the district budget by 12%. There will be a
15.6% pay cut for district staff if the, referendum does not pass.
ADEQUATE YEARLY
PROGRESS
A letter was
sent out by the district to schools that did not make Adequate Yearly Progress
(A.Y.P.) last year (2004-2005). Glenallen parents received the letter even
though Glenallen made A.Y.P. last year (2004-2005). However, Glenallen is
considered on “probation” for not meeting A.Y.P. because Glenallen did not meet
A.Y.P. for the previous two years (2003-2004 and 2002-2003). The letter states
three options for students:
to stay at Glenallen Elementary
to transfer to a
school that made A.Y.P.
to stay at
Glenallen and receive educational services * if requirements stated in the
letter are met.
The meeting
adjourned at 4:45 P.M.
Respectfully
submitted by,
Mary T. Pedro
