GLENALLEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL
May 1, 2003
The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. in
Portable #1.
In attendance:
Joan Bower, Principal/Co-Chairperson; Michelle Channing, Co-Chairperson;
Yvonne Rezek, Myrette Rodney, Linda Shaughnessy, Susan Steinfath, Robbie
Stookey, Alison Hinch, Mary Wagner and Brian Finnerty.
Absent:
Charleen Ford, Holly Gerzeny, Luda Samchuk and Glenn Wile.
Discussion on SDMT-SAC merger Ms. Bower has spoken to team leaders and they aired concerns
about losing decision making power. She
addressed those concerns. It was
decided next year to continue to explore the possibility of merging the two. Ms. Bower will bring people in to see how it
works at their school site.
Term of office
Ms.
Bower shared who would not be joining SAC next year due to their team limit and
then invited those in attendance to be part of SAC again. Leaving SAC will be Yvonne Rezek and Luda
Samchuk. Charleen Ford and Holly
Gerzeny have one more year left to their term limits. They were absent so it is unknown whether they will continue to
serve next year. On board next
year: Mary Wagner, Brian Finnerty,
Michelle Channing, Irina Chtchavlinski, Ali Hinch, Myrette Rodney, Linda
Shaughnessy, Susan Steinfath and Robbie Stookey. We will be searching for an ESOL and a school representative.
Ms. Bower proposed beginning our first meeting of
03-04 in September due to school starting so much earlier and decisions to be
made. Everyone was in agreement that
our first SAC meeting will be held in September.
It was decided that the 03-04 SAC meetings will
continue to meet the first Thursday of the month at 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. with the
exception that the September meeting will run from 4:00-5:30 so members can
visit the Science Lab, CCC Lab and Technology Lab.

Looking ahead: HVAC progressing as scheduled, two
portables will be used for summer school due to the work being done on
campus. Architectural plans will be
looked at about one year from now for the new cafeteria and five portables will
be brought in for classroom reduction.
Question about how the playground is progressing.
There was a hold up on the plans due to the need for it to be handicap
accessible. In order to not lose two
swings, Ms. Bower added $500. to the cost and the three separate play areas
will be combined. Playground should be
up and running 2003-04 school year.
Security check by Kenneth Trump showed that
Glenallen was doing over and above the requirements for student and staff
safety. The only area of concern noted
so far was the wooded patch by the front playground. Our custodial crew will take care of the brush.
The School Advisory Council adjourned at 4:55 p.m.
