GLENALLEN ELMENTARY SCHOOL
SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL
M I N U T E S
March 6, 2003
The meeting was called to order promptly at 4:00 p.m. on March 6, 2003. In attendance were: Joan Bower, Principal; Glenn Wile, Assistant Principal, Michelle Channing, Co-Chairperson; Charleen Ford, Secretary; Susan Steinfath, Ali Hinch, Linda Shaughnessy, Myrette Rodney, Mary Wagner, Barbara Garafolo, and Luda Samchuk. Absent were Robbie Stookey and Brian Finnerty.
Minutes from the last meeting were read and
accepted. Our SAC committee was very
happy to welcome a new parent representative Mrs. Irina Chtchavlinski.
Discussion concerning creating a replacement
playground that would be to code was of concern. There is a committee in place that is taking ideas from faculty
about this project. We would welcome
civic donations to help with the cost of the playground.
It is budget time again. We were presented with a premilinary draft staffing plan, which
would all depend on what monies are exactly allocated. Ms. Bower and Mr. Wile would receive the
budget on March 18th and work on its creation during spring
break. All plans are due back to the
Landings on April 10. It is already
known that we will have an additional five portables on campus for next school
year.
Summer school has been reinstated with the monies
available from the passage of the sales tax.
So there will be nine weeks of remedial reading at the elementary
level. Secondary schools will be
offering programs that impact their students.
The final issue brought before SAC by Ms. Bower was
the thought of a possible consolidation of the SDMT team and SAC. This proposed change will have to go before
the school community for discussion.
Meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m. Our next SAC meeting will be April 3, 2003
in portable 1.
Respectfully submitted,
Charleen M. Ford
