1.                 Mr. Quinn officially announced his retirement.  He explained that his Letter of Resignation will go before the school board at Tuesday’s meeting.  Best wishes to Emile were expressed by all.

2.                 The budget was reviewed and the only additional expenditure since our last meeting was the stipend to the SAC chairperson of $303.80. The balance is now $7,025.25.

3.                 Mr. Quinn requested that SAC approve $1,100 to provide rewards for the students and classes that win the Math Facts Challenge currently underway.  He explained that this was necessary due to the fact that the district required him to return funds that were earmarked for other purposes leaving a shortfall for this activity.  SAC agreed to provide the necessary funds.

4.                 Ms. Ellis requested monies to attend a Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes workshop.  SAC agreed to contribute $250, providing Ms. Ellis find an appropriate venue to share her newly acquired knowledge with staff as well as the students with whom she is working.

5.                 Susan Ionescu asked SAC to contribute $450 to pay the author’s fee to have Joan Hiatt Harlow visit our school and meet with students and parents of students in grades 3 – 5 on February 16th at 6:P.M.  In addition, she requested $100.00 to purchase copies of the book to give away to the first 25 students who register to attend.  SAC approved the request. Members would love to see a similar activity happen for grades K – 2.  Mr. Jack Shultz, Garden business partner, agreed to donate $50.00 for refreshments. In addition, a request was made to include this activity as an annual budget item.

6.                 Anne Feely shared an update on the remedial reading program sponsored by the YMCA.  She explained that most of the identified low performing students at our school were attending the remedial program.

7.                 Jack Shultz was recognized as the Garden Elementary Business Partner of the Year.  Many congratulations were mentioned.

8.                 It was requested by Mollee McFarlane that SAC discuss stipend positions at Garden.  If such positions are under the jurisdiction of SAC, that SAC consider defining performance requirements for each stipend position. This item will be a topic on next month’s agenda.

9.                 FCAT bags were stuffed. These will be given to all 3rd – 5th grade students to let them know we care about them and want them to do their very best on FCAT.

10.            Meeting adjourned 4:05 P.M.
