School Board Presentation – January 7, 2004
Mr. Quinn reviewed the agenda for our SPE presentation to the School
Board with all SAC members. On January
7, 2004 at 3:15 we will hold our SPE presentation in the Science Lab. Several students, staff members, parents and
community members will be involved in the presentation. A PowerPoint presentation will be developed
to serve as a guide for our presentation. We will share measures we are taking
to close the achievement gap as well as highlight several special programs and
activities that are taking place at Garden Elementary this year. All SAC members are invited to attend the
presentation. The current itinerary was
approved, and the planning process will continue.

Climate Survey
Amy reviewed the climate survey options provided by the District with
all committee members. As a group
consensus was reached to continue to use the survey that has been used in the
passed. Additional questions pertaining
to the Science Lab will be added in order to obtain input on this new addition
to our school. (Option 2). Amy will develop the
2003-04 Climate Survey. All
schools must administer the climate survey during the January 5 – January 30
window. Results must be tallied and
reported to the district by February 28, 2004.
Sharon Varn, Amy Baker, and any other SAC member available to assist in
the data collection process will compile the data and present the information
to the school district.

SAC project update– AM CCC lab
Amy provided an update on the AM CCC lab. Due to the popularity of the program the lab will now be opened Monday – Friday from 7:45 – 8:15 beginning Friday, November 21. Students participating in this program have been placed in a class within CCC so that reports can be run each week to monitor progress. Stacie Nokes, the science lab aide, has also begun providing additional students with extra CCC sessions in the Multi-Media Lab four times a week. Consideration is being given to inviting targeted second graders to begin attending the AM CCC program. An incentive program has been developed in order to encourage attendance. Students maintaining good attendance will be awarded throughout the year.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:45 PM
