SAC-SMT Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, January 22, 2003

3:00 p.m. in the Media

Thanks:   Thanks to Jane DeClercq and Lynn Wagenseil for the excellent refreshments.  Refreshments for our February meeting will be provided by Sandie Patrick and Mary Hodge.

School Improvement Funds Expenditure:  SAC approved the expenditure of school improvement dollars for the Write Reflections Writing Program and also for consultant and training costs for implementing the program.  The program materials for all grades cost $2500 and the cost for a consultant and training sessions is $900.  Melida explained some details of the program and said that training could be initiated on the March 21st professional day.  Approval was by consensus.

Student Recognition:  Ginny reported on the school-wide “A-Day” celebration which was held to recognize our students’ achievement of an A from the state.  The event was a great success and had the support and participation of all staff members and many parent volunteers.  Donna reported that each student also received a free book from the book fair in honor of our A school achievement.  The book fair offered great selections for the students in a range of prices, and the students made thoughtful choices.  A special book plate was placed in each of these commemorative books.

Data Analysis:  SAC continued to review and analyze student performance data in Writing, Reading and Math for the remainder of the meeting.  At our next meeting, a representative of each group will report the findings and we will begin to formalize our needs assessment for future school improvement planning.

Next Meeting:  The next SAC meeting is on Wednesday, February 26th at 3:00 p.m. in the Media.  Refreshments will be provided by Sandie Patrick and Mary Hodge (thanks).  Please remember that attendance at SAC meetings is an important requirement for Five Star School recognition.  If you cannot attend, please let Ginny know and try to find an appropriate substitute.
