CRANBERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SAC Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Don Cramer, Chairman, opened the meeting at 4:00 p.m.  Jennifer Hoover was introduced to share the information she learned regarding SAC at the PALS Leadership training in September.  She shared the three emphasis at the training were NeXt Generation Learning, School Improvement Plan, and School Advisory Council.  One thing she said that intrigued her was the statement, “It takes 100 years to make an important change.”  She said this was an encouragement to understand this when looking at the changes that are being implemented in our schools.  She stated the School Improvement Plan vision, mission, and needs assessment were discussed and how SAC has an important part in working together as a team to formulate these.  Mrs. Hoover encouraged other SAC members to attend the training next year as she felt it was very informative and helped her to understand the role of SAC members.

Mrs. Daniels then introduced the SAC Budget.  She reviewed past expenditures such as, the Science Lab, Math Lab, Honor Roll Recognition Tags, FCAT Writing Awards, Conferences and Training, and Science Fair Awards.  Ms. Daniels shared possible suggestions for expenditures for the 2007-08 year and gave an opportunity for members to make suggestions and discuss our school/student needs and how SAC funds could best be used for School Improvement.  The funding for the Brain Pop software was previously approved and has been paid for.  It was decided that the remaining funds this year would be budgeted as follows with some funding left in reserve for needs later in the year:

            Conferences                             $3,000

            Science Fair                                  300

            Student Activities                       3,000

            Math Fair                                      300

            Stipends/Materials for SIP          2,000

            (Kagan, Activ-Board, McRel)

            Fl Studio Theatre                           695

            Cross-Age Tutorial                    2,000

            Media Center                             2,000

            Science Lab                                  800

This use of SAC Funds was approved by the membership.  This leaves a reserve balance in the amount of $3,369.

It was discussed to provide some type of reward for students who attain perfect attendance for the entire year.  There was also discussion regarding the assemblies for giving out Honor Roll awards.  It was stated that some students who do their best but struggle feel crushed when they are not recognized.  The suggestion was made that perhaps the homeroom teachers could inform the specials teachers regarding students in their class who fit this category and perhaps they could be recognized for doing well in the specials areas.  This information will be shared at the next Team Leaders meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Margaret Roberson, Secretary
