SAC MEETING MINUTES

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Don Cramer, President, opened the meeting at 4:00 p.m. and called on Deborah Pappas to make a presentation on the request for funding for the Florida Studio Theater for $695.00. She gave a brief overview of the program on the Activ-Board and then answered questions from the membership regarding the “Write a Play” program for the second grade.  After a brief discussion, the SAC Committee voted to allocate $695.00 from SAC funds to sponsor this program.

Jennifer Hoover was to give a presentation from the PALS Leadership conference, however, due to transportation difficulties, she arrived late.  Her presentation was postponed until the November meeting.

Don Cramer then reviewed the SAC Guidelines and opened the floor up for discussion regarding any changes desired by the committee.  There were no changes desired and the guidelines were unanimously approved by the committee.

Ms. Daniels, principal, then gave out copies of the School Improvement Plan to all members.  This was reviewed and approved at the last meeting.  Each member was given a copy of the Final Draft which was approved at the School Board Meeting in October.

Ms. Daniels then re-addressed the funding for Brain Pop which was voted on at the last meeting.  It was determined that to offer the program for student use at home was not a good idea because of inappropriate material which the students might gain access to without supervision.  Therefore, she stated that the order was placed to obtain the Brain Pop program for teachers to use in the classroom but not to include student use at home.  The cost of the program we purchased is $1,395.00.  The original approval was for $2,000.00, which is a difference of $605.00.  It was suggested that possibly Mrs. Dame, Science teacher could check to see if the Brain Pop program could be ordered with a block in place so students could use it at home.  Ms. Daniels said she would check on this.  She also suggested that a good source for students to log on at home for different educational games etc., is google.com/advancesearch, and then click on shockwave.

Ms. Daniels then stated how important it is that everyone vote on November 6th, and that each member encourage those they are in contact with of the importance of the Penny Tax for our schools.  She also emphasized that this is not a new tax and encouraged members to hold up signs in support of this in their neighborhoods if possible.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.  The next SAC meeting will be held on November 27th at 4:00 p.m. in the Media Center.

Respectfully submitted,

Margaret Roberson, Secretary
