January 30, 2007

The meeting was called to order by President, Don Cramer at 4:00 p.m.  Ms. Daniels began the meeting using an overhead presentation of the test data from third through fifth grade students showing the progress made from the beginning of school.  She used the Sarasota County Planning Tool to indicate areas where improvement was needed and how the teachers are using this to help their students.  She then passed out a list of activities at Cranberry from the beginning of school through February which are designed to  help students prepare for the FCAT.  These include the following:

  • Before/After school tutoring sponsored by a Grant
  • Cross-Age Tutorial Program in February
  • School-wide training in Mary Lewis Strategies – sponsored by Gulf Coast grant
  • Writing Tutoring by teachers on February 3 for fourth graders
  • Lunch Buddies – Ms. Daniels and Mr. Carey working with low students
  • FCAT Rehearsals on January 9th and February 12
  • Reading Resource – push in for lowest 5 in every class
  • Math Lab – lowest 25% in grade 5 math going to Math Lab for specials every day in February
  • Parent Nights for each grade level
  • Math Club – after school for accelerated 4th and 5th grade students
  • AIMS training for teachers
  • Kagan Strategies training for teachers – 30 hours

Several members shared their thoughts regarding how the FCAT is currently used and how they would like to see a change.  Ms. Daniels said she appreciated their input and that perhaps sometime in the future changes might be made.  However, our goal as a school is to do everything we can to help all of our students reach their fullest potential and improve their FCAT scores.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
