CRANBERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SAC  MEETING MINUTES

October 24, 2006

The meeting was called to order by Don Cramer, President.  Margaret Roberson shared the “Perfect Attendance” tags that are to be given out to students with perfect attendance during the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grading periods.  Two of our SAC members, Don Cramer from Best Choice Realty, and Joe Carusone from Slice of New York Pizza, agreed to sponsor this recognition award program to encourage our students to be in attendance and on time each day.

Ms. Daniels led a discussion of Title I schools and what we are doing as a Title I school to meet the needs of lower performing students.  Parent involvement was brought up as one of the important factors in increasing student performance.  A discussion ensued of how to get more parents involved in activities that improve student achievement.  Sports activities were mentioned, however, this would not be an activity that would improve student achievement.  It was then suggested that we could possibly have a Family Parent Night with a Math Fair for all grade levels.  This was well received by the members and Ms. Daniels said she would look into this possibility.

A presentation from Ms. Daniels to review Equity Laws for students and employees was given.  Equity Booklets were also distributed to each SAC member.

A brief review of our ESE Audit which was conducted on October 24, 2006 was given by Ms. Daniels.  She explained what was involved such as the review of files, interview of teachers, ESE Liaisons and the Principal.  She shared the comments from the auditors.  They stated they found a very friendly welcoming attitude at Cranberry and the students were involved in good learning activities.  One question asked is “What are you doing to prepare students for mainstreaming?”

Deb Pappas stated that Florida Studio Theatre had been scheduled to come to Cranberry for a performance on November 13, 2006.  She expressed her gratitude to SAC for funding this presentation.

Mrs Carmen Sleeth, teacher of our Math Lab, shared her appreciation to SAC for the funds that were given for the Math Lab.

Mr. John Carey stated that the District is providing Active Boards to be placed in every classroom by 2008.  Cranberry will be given 24 beginning in January 2007.  Teachers are very excited about this addition to their classroom.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Margaret Roberson
