CRANBERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SAC MEETING MINUTES

Tuesday, January 3, 2006

The meeting was called to order by Don Cramer.  Mr. Carey introduced guest speakers from Citizens for Better Schools, Roberta Carosene and Dave Janct.  Ms. Carosene spoke to the committee regarding the Referendum vote encouraging support to get the vote out on March 14, 2006.  Mr. Janct passed out a flyer titled, “Keep the Promise of Tomorrow”.  This flyer stated all the information about the referendum and why it is important for it to be passed.  He also expressed the important thing for the committee to let others know is that this is not a “new” tax, but an extension of the tax already in place.

Ms. Daniels then led a discussion of the Budget and how it should be used.  She noted that $3,000 was used last year for Science Books.  Deb Pappas brought up a possible use of funds to enhance our school would be to have an assembly for first and second grade students from the Florida Playwrights.  This is an interactive session which encourages the students in the theater as well as the opportunity to actually write a play.  The cost is $675.  The committee agreed this would be a good idea.  Don Cramer suggested it would be helpful if teachers could make the SAC aware of assemblies they would be interested in.  Ms. Daniels stated that a form would be created for expenditure approvals for the principal and chairperson to sign for any expenditure from the SAC budget.  Mike Costanza stated he would like to see assemblies for the third – fifth grade students for FCAT encouragement.  Ms. Daniels said she would be looking into those possibilities.   The committee voted to set aside $3,000 to be used for assemblies this school year.

There was insufficient time to discuss the last item on the agenda of how to distribute SAC information to the public.  This will be addressed at the next SAC meeting in February.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,
