SAC MINUTES

AT 2:15 P.M.  

February 10, 2005

 

 

 

Members Present:

Karen Chester, Traci Douberly, Debra Reese, Karen Rose, Deb Markley, Erik Urena, Nahumi Vazquez, Tracy Witzer, Dawn Carey, Jade DeWitt, Tyler Bazenas.

 

Karen Chester called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.  

 

Deb Markley moved that we accept the minutes from the November meeting.   Tracy Witzer seconded the motion and all members voted unanimously in favor.

 

Karen Chester introduced new SAC member nominee, Christine Clark.  Mrs. Clark is a retired educator who taught at Wilkinson Elementary for many years.  Mrs. Clark will be replacing Valarie Russ, who resigned her position with SAC in January, due to a job transfer.  Karen Rose motioned to vote Mrs. Clark onto the SAC board.  Deb Markley seconded the motion and all members voted unanimously in favor.

 

FCAT Update

Eighth grade SAC students Erik Urena and Nahumi Vazquez shared that the FCAT writing went very well for them, even with the additional 90 minutes for the FCAT + portion of the test.

 

Budget Review

Karen Chester reviewed the budget, which has a current balance is $8,544.53.

 

Proposal for SIP Funds

Karen Rose requested funds to purchase tech materials for the classrooms.  The items needed include  a smart board, LCD projector and a roaming computer lab.  Debra Reese motioned that SAC contribute $5,200 toward the purchase of these items.  Dawn Carey seconded the motion and all members voted unanimously in favor.

 

The student SAC members suggested that we determine ways to raise money to add additional tech supplies to the classrooms.  Tracy Witzer will provide a list of our Business Partners at the next meeting to determine if we could utilize the businesses for some of our tech classroom needs.   The SAC students will research different fund raisers and report on their findings at the March SAC meeting.

 

Middle School Progression Plan/Middle Grades Reform (Technical Assistance Paper)

Karen Rose reviewed the Middle School Progression Plan and Technical Assistance Paper with the SAC members.

 

Other Business

Karen Rose announced that Brookside will have an IB Program Phase I in place for the 2005-2006 school year.  The IB Program Phase I will replace the Basics and Beyond strand. We are also hoping to introduce another strand, the Brookside Academy of Arts and Science. 


 

 

 

 

Deb Markley shared that three of her students’ artwork won a contest for “Embracing Our Differences” sponsored by the Holocaust Museum.  The artwork is on display at Island Park until February 28, 2005.

 

Tour Building 9

The tour of building 9 was postponed until the March 10th meeting.
