S.A.C. MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 11, 2002 at 2:15 P.M.

Deb Reese, Chairperson,
called the meeting to order with a moment of silence for the victims of
9/11. Deb Reese has agreed to be
Chairperson again this year and Mary Sue DeHart will be Secretary again. Introductions were made of everyone present.
S.A.C. Meetings will be held
the second Wednesday of every month from 2:15 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. The dates are as follows: October 9;
November 13; December 11; January 8; February 12; March 12; April 9; and May
14. If any meeting needs to be
canceled, all members will be notified in writing.
The County-wide PALS training
is scheduled for September 19, 2002 at Brookside Middle School from 6:00 p.m.
until 8:30 p.m. There will be five different
workshops. If anyone on S.A.C. wants to
attend the S.A.C. training, please do so.
Students are also welcome.
Jeff Hradek went over the
budget process with the committee.
Brookside was awarded $138,042 in A+ dollars this year. Mr. Hradek and Team Leaders came up with a
break down on how funds were to be allocated.
Seven hundred dollars will be given to each team and $10,000 will go
into Brookside’s capital budget for technology equipment. Other funds were divided up among staff who
worked at Brookside last year. Nick
Kohler made a motion to approve the A+ dollar allocations. Karen Rose seconded motion. All members voted and approved allocations
by consensus.
Karen Rose reviewed EQUIP
Data and School Improvement Plan. Safe
and Orderly Schools, Goal 9, went down a little bit last year due to
attendance. Procedures are in place
this year to improve attendance.
Brookside will be focusing in on five goals while maintaining two other
goals this school year.
S.A.C. Lottery Dollar
Requests:
M.
DeCiantis was requesting $1,400 for job shadowing for her students this year
and $750 for tutoring. Business
Education students go to the elementary schools and tutor younger children. Jeff Hradek made a motion that we approve
this allocation. Nick Kohler seconded
motion. Consensus was reached.
Susan
Maas-Lyon attended S.A.C. to request funds for a Family Literacy Night of
Reading. Ms. Maas-Lyon plans to have an
“Oprah” type book club. Grant approval
would not occur until January therefore she is requesting funds from S.A.C. to
get a jump start on “reading”. Child
care will be made available so all families will have an opportunity to
attend. The amount she is requesting is
$700. Nick Kohler made a motion that we
approve this. Cory Williams’ seconded
motion. Consensus was reached.
Deb
Markley attended S.A.C. to request $1,200 in funds for and Arts Attack
Program. These are videos that students
can work on projects while looking at the video which frees up teacher to move
around the room. Ms. Markley also
wanted to thank S.A.C. for the money used for the Elmo machine last year. It is working out wonderfully in the
classroom. Cory Williams made a motion
that we approve this. Mary Sue DeHart
seconded motion. Consensus was reached.
Other
Funds approved included:
Literacy Institute for Language Arts Teachers
(4 total) $2,200.00; Answer America which is the phone answering system for
Homework Hotline $1,380.00; Registration for six teachers to attend a Writing
Conference in Tampa $330.00; Mote Registration for nine teachers to attend
F.A.S.T. 2002: The Fine Art of Science $855.00.
Joe Bazenas reviewed the
plans for Safe and Orderly Schools for Brookside. He plans to sit in on team meetings and put plan into
effect. The Intervention Assistance
Team (I.A.T.) has been developed to work on students’ behaviors, etc.
The Operational Guidelines
were reviewed. One change was made
under Membership Terms – Please add - Community members could be excluded from
the one year recess per Principal appointment.
Equity booklets were
distributed to all S.A.C. members..
