Minutes
from Meeting
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 a.m.
Attendees:
In attendance were Michelle Henderson (principal), Keith
Thompson (chair and teacher representative), Britt Galipault (secretary and
parent representative), Julie Lopez (parent representative), Harriet Cowan
(teacher representative), and Rita Lopez (student representative).
Agenda:
The
minutes from the February 8 meeting were read and approved.
We will wait to promulgate our compact
until the beginning of next school year as it is so late in the current school
year. The compact is an agreement
between parents, students, and teachers, setting forth the responsibilities of
each. Copies of the compact will be
distributed in classrooms on Meet the Teacher Night. Those compacts not returned on Meet the
Teacher Night will be sent home with students the first week of school to be
signed and returned.
SDMT met last week and set next year’s
lunch and specials times. The SDMT also
established two sample rotations for specials.
One assumes that we are able to fund 6 specials teachers; the other assumes we can only fund 5. The team will now schedule the school day
around the 90 minute reading block, the one hour math block for some grades,
and the lunch and specials schedule.
Michelle Henderson and Matt Avery will then develop the school’s master
calendar based on the teachers’ preferences.
The budget for next year should be available on April 18 and Mrs.
Henderson should be able to present it to SAC and SDMT on Monday, April 23.

At our next meeting we will discuss a
schedule for holding schoolwide parent conferences around the end of the first
quarter.
Next year we plan to schedule a family math night and a family science night. Dates for these nights will follow. The family science night will be held early in the school year and will focus on how to plan and present a science project. There will be stations focusing on each step of the project: basic processes, rules, ideas for a project, how to assemble a board, and judging. SAC discussed requiring science projects from the GATE classes in grades 1 – 5 and encouraging them for other classes. The family math night will be held in advance of FCAT testing, to give parents strategies for helping their kids practice at home.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 a.m.
