Minutes
from Meeting
Meeting called to order at 7:30 a.m.
In attendance were Michelle Henderson (principal), Keith
Thompson and Harriet Cowan (teacher representatives), Staci Blackwell and Julie
Lopez (parent representatives) and Rita Lopez (student representative).
Agenda:
1. Minutes from November SAC meeting were read and
approved.
2. Update on Parent Computer Training
There were approximately 20 people in
attendance at our first computer training provided by Best Buy Geek Squad from
the Sarasota Best Buy. We had a Spanish
speaking agent from the Geek Squad who translated for the Spanish speaking
parents who were in attendance. Feedback
was very positive from the parents and they really
felt like they learned so much. We hope
to do a follow up to this training before the end of this school year. The Geek Squad agents said they would be pleased
to return as they found it to be a rewarding experience for them as well. Sarasota Herald Tribune printed a nice article
on this event and the Best Buy manager framed the article and hung it in his
training room.
3. Parent Involvement Conference
It is our goal to meet with the
parents of every student to discuss the student’s progress and goals with the
parents. We want to find a time of day
and meeting place which promotes the greatest involvement from parents. It will likely be mandatory,
therefore we must determine what is best for parents and teachers to come
together.
