Brentwood Elementary School

PTO/SAC Board Meeting

December 1, 2005

Meeting was called to order at 3:10 p.m.

Welcome:  Sign-in sheet was passed around.

Citizens for Better Schools:

Carl Weinrich spoke at the meeting about this committee and what it entails.  CBS has been in existence for about 5 years and all of the members are volunteers.  It originally began primarily with business owners and then concerned citizens within our local community.  The main goal for CBS is about getting educational information out to the public.  Mr. Weinrich’s main current focus and concern was upcoming 1 mil tax referendum vote.  One of the key issues was getting this additional revenue over and above due to real estate boom.

Important educational sources provided since the 2001 1 mil referendum vote passed include hiring more guidance counselors, more arts classes, Phoenix Academy (school for students working below level academically), replenishing the reserve fund (important due to real estate boom).  If we continue with the 1 mil (keep it the same), that will allow us to continue with teacher’s raises, increase school day by 30 minutes, and help close the achievement gap.  A Question and Answer will be posted on the school board website very soon.
