BRENTWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

PTO/SAC BOARD MEETING

FEBRUARY 4, 2005

Meeting called to order at 3:07 p.m.

Welcome: Sign-in, snow cone party, snack sheets were passed around.

Principal’s Report: Mrs. Russell did not attend as she is in attendance at the weekly on site meeting for Elementary A.

Mr. McQueen’s Report:

  • TV Studio – Mr. Kluk and Mrs. Harrison will be running the station with the fifth graders. Half of the equipment has already been delivered. The studio will be located in Room 507.
  • Site Analysis – On February 17, 2005 here in the Media Center there will be a site analysis to let the School Board know what we want in our new principal. We let Mr. McQueen know that we would like him to be our new principal and he informed us that this is not a possibility at this time.
  • Parent Observation Week – the challenge this year is that we don’t know who the new principal will be and if he or she will allow parents to fill out a choice form. Also, we don’t know which teachers will be following Mrs. Russell to the new elementary school and which will remain here at Brentwood. So the question is: Who are the parents going to observe? Up to 32 teachers could potentially be leaving Brentwood for the new elementary school. Teachers will not know if they have been accepted at the new school until at least May. Please think about this issue and we will discuss possible solutions at the next meeting.
  • Continued Leadership PTO/SAC – We are concerned about Brentwood PTO for next year because there might be some parents considering following Mrs. Russell. If you’re on the board, please let us know your decision as soon as possible.
  • After-Care Program – We have a part-time opening. The hours are from 2:30 to 6:00 pm and it pays $11.07 per hour.

Secretary’s Report: January 2005 minutes were read, accepted and seconded.

Treasurer’s Report: The current bank account information was read, accepted and seconded.

Adopt-A-Class: We still have several classrooms/special areas open for adoption: Mrs. Townsend, Mrs. Morris, Mrs. B/C, Mr. McCray & Mrs. Bass.

Fundraisers:

  • Jog-A-Thon – the t-shirts will be finished on 2-15-05 and the students will get them on the morning of the event, 2-18-05. We have many great prizes that have been donated including several bikes, a scooter, basketballs, footballs, etc. There will be a drawing for these prizes.

New Business:

  • Volunteer Luncheon – February 17, 2005 at 11:30 am. Please RSVP and attend.
  • Fall Fundraiser – Do we want to continue with Sally Foster? There were some attendees that wanted to do something else and didn’t like the selection. Overall, the PTO preferred Sally Foster because of the ease of ordering, receiving and the capability for Internet Orders. Do we want to consider the Little Caesar’s Fundraiser? The profit margin is big. We will discuss this further and vote at the next meeting.
  • Spring Fling – We are still looking for a chairperson for this event. If you are interested, please contact one of our co-presidents. (4/29/05)
  • Spring Scholastic Book Fair – We are going to have a Spring Book Fair that will be open 4/28 & 4/29. Renée Thompson will chair this event. She will try to have the books delivered on Monday of that week, 4/25/05.
  • Mrs. Ray – Her son, Michael the Marine, is home from the war! We are all thankful to have him home and he will attend the Fun Run.
  • Marquee for the Back of the School – We asked Mr. McQueen to get recent quotes for large and medium-sized marquees.

Meeting adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
