BRENTWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

PTO/SAC BOARD MEETING

DECEMBER 2, 2004

Meeting called to order at 3:05 p.m.

Welcome: Sign-in sheet was passed around.

Principal’s Report:

  • The 2005-2006 school year calendar is out, but not finalized. Our students will begin school next year on a Thursday so that means that our Back-To-School Lunch for our teachers will need to be on a Tuesday.
  • A focus group is needed for the Honore Reconstruction Project for December 15, 2004. They want feedback from residents in our area.
  • The school choice window will be only for a few weeks in January. The dates have not been published as of today’s date.

Mr. McQueen’s Report:

  • A new elementary school has been approved for the Palmer Road area so there will be a significant restructuring of the school zones for the Fruitville, Ashton, & Lakeview elementary schools.
  • Mrs. Ray’s Pillows for Patriots project will be featured tonight on the nightly news on Channel 8.
  • There have been several inquiries about the possibility of scholarships being offered for our after-school care program. This was something that the YMCA offered and it’s up to the PTO to decide if they should take on this expense.

Fall Fundraisers:

  • Pie Sales: Sold 358 pies for a profit of $1,075.00.
  • Jog-A-Thon: Morgan Rivers will be talking to Mr. McCarthy about printing up some t-shirts.
  • Teacher-Of-The-Year: Mrs. Rush
  • Classified Employee of the Year: Charlotte Hiell and she is retiring at the end of this year.
  • Toys for Tots: We are accepting new, unwrapped toys until December 14th when they will be sent off for distribution to local children.
  • Holiday Gift Shop: Things are going extremely well. And a huge thank you to Holly Mailloux, Morgan Rivers and Melissa Jeffrey.
  • Spring Book Fair: Scholastic has eliminated their $1,000 bonus for holding a book fair. If we hold another book fair, we may get that bonus. We are thinking about having a one day book fair during Spring Fling to help recoup our losses from the Fall Fundraiser. We will discuss further during the January 2005 meeting.
  • Would we be interested in selling a Brentwood license plate? It could be used year after year until we sold them out.

New Business:

  • The computer labs asked for the PTO to purchase new chair “aprons” that slide on the backs of the chairs. This request was made for next year. More information and prices will be obtained and presented at a future meeting.
  • Kris Moler received a phone call from a distraught grandmother whose grandchild forgot to give the lunch money deficiency notice to her and then did not have money for lunch. Kris put forth a motion to put $200 of the PTO’s money into an account for these children who do not need help in paying for lunch, but have forgotten to tell their parents/guardians. Then when the money comes in, the PTO account will be credited.
  • PTO Officer Positions:
    1. Co-President: Staci Blackwell & Melissa Jeffrey
    2. Secretary:  Cory Tyle
    3. Adopt-A-Class: Michelle Walsh
    4. Treasurer: __________________ (no one volunteered yet)
  • Our Band Leader, Mr. Parr, asked that the band and strings participants be given a special Band t-shirt or be able to purchase one. He was given the name and number of our t-shirt printer and will get estimates for next year.

Meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m.
