BRENTWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

PTO/SAC BOARD MEETING

NOVEMBER 4, 2004

Meeting called to order at 3:03 p.m.

Welcome:

  • Sign-in sheet was passed around.

Principal’s Report:

  • We successfully made it through Election Day with no glitches; however, we have requested to NOT be a polling place for next year due to the safety issues of having so many strangers on campus.
  • The Open House is tonight. Classrooms will be open from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • There will be a McDonald’s night in December to benefit our ESE program.
  • Our School Improvement Plan has been approved and it includes 30 hours of additional training for our instructional staff and an additional 10 hours for other staff members.

Mr. McQueen’s Report:

  • It’s time to nominate your favorite volunteer for Volunteer of the Year. There are three categories: Adult, Senior and Youth.

Secretary’s Report: Skipped due to the brief nature of today’s meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • The report was read, accepted and seconded without changes.

PALS Update:

  • Please enter ALL your PTO hours; this includes, work done at home, phone calls made at home, etc.
  • Volunteers are needed for tomorrow and Monday to conduct the hearing screenings for our students. A sign-up sheet was passed around.

Adopt-A-Class Update: Tami Kurtz reported that there are only 5 teachers left for adoption and 6 special areas. A notice will be going home asking for donations.

Fall Fundraisers:

  • Book Fair: Renée Thompson asked everyone to stay after the meeting to help move the Book Fair out into the Media Center for tonight’s Open House.
  • The Holiday Gift Shop will be held December 2 – December 9. Holly Mailloux has agreed to Chair this event and we will keep the same schedule for teacher’s as the Book Fair.
  • The Fall Fundraiser: a huge thank you to all the volunteers.

Misc. New Business:

  • Thanksgiving Lunch: pre-paid tickets will be on sale soon. The feast will be 11/18/04.
  • Pie Sales: Flyers will be going out Monday and the pies are from Dutch Heritage.
  • Jog-A-Thon: Will be held on 2/18/05 and we still need a chairperson. Staci Blackwell and Susan Snyder agreed to co-chair the event.
  • Pillows for Patriots: Miss Annie from the office created a wonderful display of some of the completed pillows in the case in the front of the Media Center. The pillow manufacturer actually donated the 300 pillows and pillow cases! We will definitely have enough money for all the postage.
  • Cafeteria: The question was posed: Should we limit the number of a la carte items that can be purchased each day? We will discuss at a future meeting.
  • Morgan Rivers asked if students have any other opportunities to take additional RC tests? The computer time is limited in the classroom. The question will be posed at the next technology meeting.
  • The PTO was asked to provide a pre-school room for child care during our meetings. We will have to gain permission from Mrs. Russell.
  • It was suggested that each grade have Grade Moms (two of them) to contact other parents to ask for volunteers. A sign-up sheet was passed around.

Meeting adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
