BRENTWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

PTO/SAC BOARD MEETING

October 7, 2004

Meeting called to order at 3:00 p.m.

Welcome:

  • Sign-in sheet was passed around.
  • Melissa Jeffrey thanked Staci Blackwell, Holly Mailloux, & Yvonne Griffiths for their hard work on the Fall Fundraiser.
  • The Snow Cone parties will begin next week. The sign-up sheet was passed around.

Principal’s Report:

  • Mr. McQueen handed out our School Improvement Plan and asked the PTO to read it and make any suggestions by October 20th. Then it will be voted on by the SAC and sent to the Sarasota County School Board for approval.
  • The Discrimination Policy Handbook was handed out to all members.
  • Mr. McQueen thanked the PTO for the $3,500 given to help build the Brentwood Broadcasting Studio. He hopes that it will be operational by the time we return from our Holiday break.

Secretary’s Report: September’s PTO minutes were read, accepted and seconded.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • The report was read, accepted and seconded without changes.

PALS Update:

  • Please enter ALL your PTO hours; this includes, work done at home, phone calls made at home, etc.
  • Sign up in the computer with your social security number only. There have been some cases where volunteers have not passed the background check yet and are trying to enter their hours under false SS numbers. Please make a list of your hours and wait until you are approved.
  • Mr. McQueen, Cory Tyle, Amy Kaiser and Kellie Dietz attended the latest PALS training last week.

Adopt-A-Class Update: Tami Kurtz asked for volunteers to take over her position for next year as Coordinator of Adopt-A-Class since her daughter will be going to middle school next year.

Fundraisers:

  • The Sally Foster Sale grossed $32,938.50. There will be a pizza party soon for the top sellers. Merchandise pick-up will be on 10/13 and 10/14 in the PTO room.
  • Renée Thompson passed out the Scholastic Book Fair schedule and volunteer opportunities and asked for people to sign up. The Book Fair dates are 10/30/04 through 11/05/04.

Misc. New Business:

  • There are several Officer positions open for next school year:

1) Secretary,   2) Treasurer, and 3) Co-President

We’d like to get these positions filled so that the “new” officers can shadow the current officers and learn their positions.

  • The Holiday Gift Shop fundraiser needs a Chairperson.
  • Pie Sales: The pie certificates will be on sale soon for $9 per pie. Brentwood receives approximately $3 per pie.
  • Pillows for Patriots: Mrs. Ray thought of this project, in part, because her son is a Marine stationed in Iraq. Just a few weeks after arriving in Iraq, Michael’s base caught fire and all of their personal belongings were lost. He asked his mother to send him a small pillow. As she was sewing the pillow case, Mrs. Ray had the idea to send hundreds of pillows to soldiers using Brentwood student’s artwork as iron-on transfers and their poems as presents tucked inside the pillow case. All pillows will be sent out by Veteran’s Day. So far, $2,000 has been raised to pay for this wonderful project.
  • Jog-A-Thon will be held this spring and also needs a chairperson to organize it.

Meeting adjourned at 3:56 p.m.
