SAC minutes – January 16, 2008.  Minutes reviewed, corrected and approved for posting on SAC website.

 

 

Principal Report:  Ms. White Davis

 

  • Lottery Fund Request

 

    1.  $1500 – Key Club for attendance at Leadership Conference.

  Attendance at this conference is mandatory in order for Booker High

  to maintain the Key Club Charter. 

SAC did not approve this expenditure of Lottery dollars.  Suggested

possible funding through a Booker High  internal  account, possible

that Kiwanis Club could match funds. 

 

    1.  $17,718.00 (SDMT proposal) for the purchase of a 3 year lease/ maintenance for copy a

Ricoh , Aficio MP 7500 Copy machine – location Building 5.

SAC approved this expenditure.

 

    1. $450 ($200 worth of free software) (SDMT proposal) for six (6) scanners to be located In Staff Lounges across campus.

SAC tabled this proposal for the March 20, 2008 SAC meeting.

  • FCAT Preparation

Teachers are preparing students to test using FCAT format bubble

sheets.

 

Strategies include pep talks to instill student achievement confidence.

 

Advisory, TAP time each Wednesday, teachers are using the

“Tornado Drill Book” emphasizing FCAT reading and math.

 

Communication skills between teachers, students and staff has been

clarified to all staff, prior to testing dates, as to students testing site, (students have FCAT pre-tested in the same FCAT location with the same

proctors) proctors, and all other pertinent information to assist with a smoother transition from a normal school day to a FCAT testing day.

 

Indicators show that 87% of students tested 2006-2007; 2007 – 2008 96.7% of students to be tested.

 

Booker High School is testing as well as other high schools.  Booker High is above the “D” status and that needs to continue with all students making gains, especially the bottom 25%. 

 

Saturday tutorial has not been working.  Other schools have been offering tutorial after school day, with sports activities delayed until 4:00 PM to accommodate tutor programs.

Parent Newsletter mailed on February 20, 2008.  Parent letter is included in this publication informing parent that all students are to attend school on FCAT testing days.

 

Snacks for FCAT testing will be provided by Administrative team.

Booker High administrators have a plan in place for all of the

Publicity.  School District will handle media and press issues.

Mattison Restaurant will hold Syesha Mercado celebration.  If

Syesha make it to the top 3, Booker High will hold a Pep Rally.

 

  • Retirement & staffing

Ms. Lindsey, Attendance personnel retiring end of February.  This position must be filled internally with current personnel; waiver to hire is pending.  This position to be posted and filled at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school years.

 

  • Senior Grad Night

This is the last year we will have senior grad night at Disney.  Other theme parks for the future Grad Night being considered art Universal Studios and

Islands of Adventure.

Smartweb Update:  Leona Campos

 

  • Sarasota School District working on a new web system for teachers,

students, and parents.  The current system (AS 400) is approximately six

(6) years behind the times.  This new system will be available for the

 2009-2010 school year and will provide easier and more extensive

accessibility for student schedules, progress reports and report card

 information by teachers, students, parents and staff.

 

  • Sarasota School District has refurbished 50 computers for students in need of

Of a computer.  Lem Andrews, College Career Counselor for Booker High School is in charge of locating students who qualify for this gift.
